There’s been a lot of talk in recent days about how the United States is destined to dominate football because it has the “best athletes”, but the progress visible in this clip is because they have a coach who’s introduced a more sophisticated and cerebral approach to their game. A lot of American sports fans seem to think that guys like Tom Brady and LeBron James could simply switch to football and excel, but football is a sport where athleticism and intelligence are much closer to a 50/50 proposition. Reading space, making decisions under pressure, anticipating movement, and understanding tactics are just as important as physical gifts. By contrast, many American sports strike me as being closer to an 80/20 balance in favour of athleticism.

Soccer is the only sport I was good enough/tall enough at to play at a collegiate level, so I admit I have some implicit bias here, but I couldn’t agree more. If you hate slow, low scoring sports, valid. But saying baseball is a great viewer sport and soccer is boring is insane

I don’t understand this argument. There are virtually no breaks at all. The ball is almost always in play. Golf and baseball are way more objectively boring. The ball is hardly ever in play in football. Your knowledge of a sport is usually what makes it fun to watch.

He's right, but Twitter is dominated by midwits that don't understand anything about sports and athleticism. The US has the largest talent pool of athletes and most funding for sports. If our athletes chose soccer, yes, they'd be the best.
