I believe Anthropic will beat OpenAI in the long run. Infrastructure battles are the bigger battles. OpenAI is betting on Python and Anthropic on Typescript. Maybe OpenAI chose Python because they believe the web will go away. Either way, both of them are purchasing companies in these ecosystems completely unrelated to AI.

@hey_amandam Yeah, it's crazy how much better it has gotten; even last year took a lot of kicking and screaming to build something small.

Back in 2024 I tested using AI (likely sonnet 3.5 or gpt-4o) to build an app for me and my husband to solve the problem of never knowing what records we already had when we were in a record store. But the first step was needing to get all of the albums into data. I took pictures of the spines and tried to make a "spine scraping" python script to pull all the album and artist names from images. At the time the models suggested OCR for this and no combination of my understanding or the AI's work could get to a reasoable result. So I gave up on the script. Today, I took those same images and just gave them to claude and asked it to give me back all the artist/album names. And it just did it with high accuracy- i didn't even need to have it build a script with me bc the models are that good now. I still get blown away by how far things have come - and I guess I'm finally making my husband his app now
