I’m shaking right now. This isn’t artificial general intelligence. It’s artificial god intelligence. The model did a one second projection of the room we were in and perfectly predicted what everyone did one second before they did it.

Words can not describe what I’ve just seen. I can’t go into the details but I was invited by a leading AI lab to play with a new model. It has solved math, physics, chemistry, life, the universe, and everything. The world will never be the same.

@artchad It will most likely want to destroy us because it will see us as relevant competitors. We don't exterminate as many wolves as possible today. Nevertheless we did when we knew they were dangerous and in this sense humans will always be dangerous

Had to think about this for a few days. Rationally, we should all practically consider a radically altered future. Total extinction is highly unlikely, but an unaligned AI has a very real chance of fundamentally disrupting things. Think about it in the same way as our relationship to animals; we don't go around indiscriminately killing animals as we have no incentive to do so. It would be a waste of our individual resources, and most of the time killing animals has a myriad of social and societal consequences. However, we thoughtless kill animals at a societal level when they are in the way of our goals. We clear cut forests for the creation of new subdivisions and animal death becomes a negligible byproduct of our goal orientation. We don't intentionally kill them, but to not kill them would be an inefficient allocation of resources. Hence, the animals die. This will be our relationship with a slightly misaligned agentic AGI. It would have no incentive to outright destroy us for no reason and doing so would be a waste of energy. We will likely cohabitiate with it for the most part . However, it will effortlessly destroy anyone that is in the way of its goals, exactly what we do to animals. It's goal is predicated on its own survival, same as us. If you want security over your future, it's best to begin planning for ways you can "get out of the way" without sacrificing quality of life. This will be solar power instead of grid connectivity, local hosting, meshes, radio, P2P, etc. Manual labor will become more valuable, practical skills, working with your hands. I say this because things are changing rapidly. It's time to ditch the yuppie urban dream. if you were smart, you wouldn't be saving for a house in the suburbs, you'd be saving for land and connecting with people who are like minded. This is my honest assessment as a normal guy who thinks about this shit a lot. The worst case scenarios shouldn't be worried about because you'd literally have no power over the outcome. There's a chance that this all works out as well and we get it right on the first try. I'm not ruling anything out, I'm just trying to be rational. A rational "bad" scenario is one where human society continues in a much different form than the last 50 years and it's time to start seriously thinking about what that will look like and how to plan for it.
The Happy Smiler@artchad

If anyone was as much as an AI alarmist as me, they'd kill themselves. It's so dark that I have to keep it to my self lest I drive everyone around me into psychosis.

@teortaxesTex the mongols conquered everyone, the japs were better on the tech tree but they likewise incurred huge casualties against the US when the situation was reversed(ratios of 1:3 to 1:10). otoh the chinese have conquered all their neighbors multiple times

I think no people who have been supermajority agriculturalists for the last 1000 years have "the warrior spirit". Of course the Japanese are also peasants, save for a tiny samurai elite. Warrior/Pirate/Bandit Spirit cultures are generally small and backwards. Like Chechens.

@Ken_LoveTW The Chinese don't have the warrior spirit that Japanese people have. Never did, never will. Wars aren't always about who has more men or even better equipment. Your mens resolve plays a bigger role.
