@nontpnonjo Using acopy of a copy of a copy of an original manuscript as an "additional source" of evidence is clearly and obviously a cope

@FeelsGuy2003 There is nothing more powerful for turning people away from Christianity than this. The gloating over it is just the cherry on top. Christians are their own worst enemy.

If something sounds like the plot of a Hollywood movie and the source is people who literally always lie: it’s almost certainly not true.

@JudgeHolden1993 @VADE_OFFICIAL But it was small then. Owning black rifles was unusual and few people would defend you politically when it came time for a ban. The AWB was a shot across the bow, the next one won't sunset. Popularizing the 2A does help preserve it. As cringey as some of this stuff is

I can explain something that is probably confusing Europeans: Most Americans, when they hear about "The NATO budget" think that European militaries pay for their defence out of a NATO fund that America pays into. Americans think they "pay for European defence" literally.

Getting mad at Machiavelli for objectively describing how principalities work is like getting mad at your biology professor for objectively describing predation. I genuinely believe this whole Machiavelli was an evil sociopath thing is a psyop to keep us from reading him.

Literally false. Just look at something very obvious: late Neoplatonism, like in Iamblichus and Proclus, is extremely post-Christian, and it speaks of miraculous theurgic experiences that were occurring in that period, as well as the functional use of oracle, see e.g, Porphyry’s Philosophy of Oracles, which today survives only in fragments because it was burned by Christians. What actually happened was the exact opposite: this kind of thing became even stronger later. The root of all this confusion is a biased reading of Plutarch’s De Defectu Oraculorum, based on a non sequitur that ignores the fact that the supposed “decline of oracles” within such a short time frame (which, in any case, does not even line up precisely with the date of Christ’s death) is overstated. The argument is invalid because it confuses temporal coincidence with causation. it is clearly an instance of the post hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy. Plutarch does not claim that oracles ceased universally, and historical evidence shows they continued well into late antiquity. Even if one grants a temporal overlap (which is highly doubtful), any partial decline of oracles can be explained by political, economic, and cultural factors within the Roman Empire, and any Christian explanation must account for why oracles still existed afterward and why pagan philosophers continued to report divine interaction even later.

I believe Greeks and Romans reported the same thing in their temples.
