@MitchyGallo I totally agree with your assesment of the PK. You have to give a lot of credit to Veleno who has been really good filling in. Makes you wonder how they can possibly take him out of the lineup with his versatility...

Here are my three takeaways from the Montreal Canadiens’ 3-2 win over the New York Rangers, brought to you by Snap Bar Sportif in Rigaud. 1- Newhook having a career year It’s unfortunate that Alex Newhook suffered the injury that cost him a large portion of the season, because he’s been terrific both before and after. Maybe people would view him differently if he had played a full year, more than just a third-line player who can fill in on the top six in spurts. Newhook might still set a career high in goals despite missing nearly half the season. Yes, he’s benefited from playing alongside Ivan Demidov, but he’s made the most of that opportunity and it’s clearly working. It wasn’t long ago that the Canadiens were looking to young players who hadn’t blossomed to help speed up the rebuild, and it looks like, in doing that, they hit a home run and found a gem in Newhook. 2- Penalty kill with another perfect night The penalty kill has been a point of concern for Montreal all season and needed to improve heading into the playoffs. To their credit, the Canadiens have done a good job fixing issues on the fly this year, whether it was protecting leads, slow starts, or defensive zone coverage. Well, the PK shut down the New York Rangers tonight. And while the Rangers aren’t a great team overall, they are dangerous on the power play. Montreal also held Tampa Bay to 0-for-4 on Tuesday and blanked Nashville on special teams over the weekend. Another box is starting to get checked as they approach the postseason. 3- Jacob Fowler’s rebound Martin St. Louis made the right call again with his goaltenders, something he’s handled well all season. Fowler’s toughest outing came back in early December, when he dropped a 5-4 shootout game to the Rangers at Madison Square Garden. So what do you do? You give him a chance to respond against that same team, and he delivered. Much like his win over Nashville, he wasn’t overly tested, but he made a couple of key saves, including a point-blank right pad stop on Alexis Lafrenière in the second period. Looking ahead, the Canadiens are in a great position with two goalies performing well while still on inexpensive deals. That kind of flexibility can be a huge advantage. @tsn690

@MitchyGallo Any truth to the rumor that said when he signed his new contract he mentioned getting the C as a condition? To me, Sanderson seems like a better leader.

@TonyMarinaro Might only be a coincidence but I didn't see Hutson get roughed up between whistles tonight. He's definitely a deterrent.

@NHL_Muse Absolutely no one outside of Ontario will say Toronto, no one. Those who know hockey will say Montréal. Boston, Chicago and Detroit are ahead of Toronto ffs! Toronto is 5th out of the original 6!

@NHL_Muse Montreal has the better stadium, that’s it. The hall of fame is in Toronto. Toronto has the most fans. The majority of players in the league are from either Toronto or close by. It’s not close and if you say Montreal you just hate Toronto, which helps prove the point even more.

@Smileyyeg For what it's worth, we judge the francophones who don't speak English just as much. You should want to speak both languages. Not sure why all the push back. Speaking two or many languages is a flex. We should all strive for it.

@sammisilber I don't know about honest. I'm not a fan of blindside hits. That said, the d-man has to be aware of who's on the ice and he definitely can't be admiring his pass with Wilson on the ice. I don't think it's suspendable. Guys have to be aware!

Shoulder hit, elbow stays down. Maybe a tad late, but otherwise a good, honest hockey hit IMO from Tom Wilson.

@ChrisCuomo It's alarming that your country is watching this in real time and doing absolutely nothing about it. If this doesn't get Trump impeached, then no one will EVER get impeached.

An epidemic of suspicious trading has emerged around Trump's most consequential decisions — each time, just minutes or hours before he rattles global markets. It's precisely the kind of alleged corruption Trump built his political career railing against. axios.com/2026/03/25/tru…

@walsha I agree. He works for them. What he should've said was if the league and players decide to change our mandate and the parameters they have given us, we'll of course make some changes. Because at the end of the day, they make decisins based on what the league has previously asked.

Similar to the Devils in 2014 after the Kovalchuk contract debacle, the Ottawa Senators end up with the 32nd pick in the 2026 draft, rather than forfeiting it outright. It effectively bumps everyone up a peg after Ottawa in the standings.

@davechab @mndamico No. Send will have their pick and this pick will have it original spot. No one else can have that spot. At this turn during the draft, Bettman will say that Ottawa forfeited this pick. Ottawa will instead draft at the end of the round.

@JeanFrancoisCBA @mndamico If Toronto finishes 6th they have to give up their top 5 protected pick. If the Sens win the lotery, they pick 32nd and everyone is bumped down one pick no? So in theory Toronto would then finish 5th and not have to give up the pick? Or the NHL has already said this wouldn't be?

@mndamico So teams with protected draft picks could end up keeping them because of this. Weird timing for the change.

Worth noting that the Senators cannot trade the pick, nor are they eligible for the draft lottery. Also slapped with a hefty $1M fine.
