Boarded a well-run ship today and found a surprise at the top of the pilot ladder. The step (~8 kN) took the load while the side ropes (≥24 kN) were secured away from it-non-compliant with SOLAS V/23 and IMO A.1045(27). The “why” matters as much as the “what.” #DangerousLadders
