everyone's talking about their teams like they were at the peak of efficiency and bottlenecked by ability to produce code here's what things actually look like - your org rarely has good ideas. ideas being expensive to implement was actually helping - majority of workers have no reason to be super motivated, they want to do their 9-5 and get back to their life - they're not using AI to be 10x more effective they're using it to churn out their tasks with less energy spend - the 2 people on your team that actually tried are now flattened by the slop code everyone is producing, they will quit soon - even when you produce work faster you're still bottlenecked by bureaucracy and the dozen other realities of shipping something real - your CFO is like what do you mean each engineer now costs $2000 extra per month in LLM bills

🌟 Vertical Tabs are available behind a flag in Chrome 145 (current beta) 1. Go to `chrome://flags/#vertical-tabs` 2. Set it to enabled 3. Relaunch Chrome 4. Right click the tabbar and choose “Move Tabs To The Side” Attached are before and after screenshots.

If I have any followers or pals from @figma, two feature requests, not mutually exclusive: 1. A native Linux app, or support for system fonts in the browser 2. Custom font upload in the Pro plan, or some kinda Pro+ plan I will gladly pay more to use my fonts on Linux, but we simply don't need 90% of what's in the Organization plans.

It was a blast and an honor to work on the teeny live-data billboards for @stripe's miniature city, which are a @sveltejs + @sanity_io web app displayed in 10 tiny Chrome windows on 10 tiny LCD/OLED panels. Check it out at bfcm.stripe.com — the show's still on today (Cyber Monday) and tomorrow (Giving Tuesday), and watch out for some screen-based surprises!

Spending tomorrow at @sanity_io's Everything *[NYC] event in Brooklyn. Schedule looks very, very Sanity — talks about custom apps and content operations, plus art, DJs, and great food. Attendees received badges early via FedEx, but with a twist: the name space is blank, for folks to fill in themselves. I made my best effort at recreating GT Standard and our logo in 2-3 layers of Sharpie marker — how did I do? 😅 If you're gonna be there too, come say hi! I'll have some Y2K-themed @bitsandletters stickers.

Quick question: How do you know when your website has gone from helping your business to hurting it? Spoiler: it happens gradually, then suddenly. 😱 I shared some thoughts on this pattern I see constantly in our work on the @bitsandletters blog: btslttrs.com/bsky-first-site

Since 2016, I've been thinking about how clear, informative, non-academic talks don't seem very popular. In 2016, @garybernhardt gave a talk on reproducibility at StrangeLoop which I thought was quite good. It clearly explained a non-obvious idea and came in well under time.

anthropic.com/news/claude-fo… 11.2% attack success rate is multiple orders of magnitude too high for AI browsers to be safe enough for mass market usage.

Finally bothered to write a `.claude/CLAUDE.md` file to customize Claude Code and borrowed the idea to have my coding agent address me with extra respect

Lastly, this one isn't even a screenshot, it's just great.

This one isn't from me, it's one Christopher Slye kept and sent me at some point. TBH this exchange with @veen is more or less my philosophy around metrics and 99% of why I'm not a PM anymore, because current PM thinking considers "maybe we have enough data and can just decide?" deeply heretical

Some of my most special — that's to say, spicy — memories live on as screenshot files piled into a folder in my Dropbox. This is a tweet I was drafting on the day I left Google in 2021:

I like my fake email app screen design, but it needs more work so I can incorporate visible contact details, and also make it work as a web page and not a faux-app screen. What contact patterns do y'all like?

Probably the best pattern is all of the above: 1️⃣ Visible email addresses, linked as mailtos 2️⃣ Visible phone number too, if you want 3️⃣ An optional form for new business, with an email displayed if a user doesn't want to use the form

I've heard some real conflicting opinions about how to handle inbound contacts from my studio website. Here's a really cool contact form mockup, but I'm not sure it's the right pattern, for reasons I explain in the thread 🧵
