Japanese and Thais have been fighting on Twitter all day. Here’s the tea lol: A Thai man at a 7-11 attempted to buy a box of instant ramen. He opens it, pours hot water, and then goes to pay. Why? Because in Thailand this is common, as Thais live in a high interpersonal trust society and people can be trusted to pay for things at shops. For added clarity, this practice is mostly done with noodles to save time and not much else. However, in Japan, people are expected to pay for noodles before opening them. A Japanese 7-11 cashier corrects him. No problem. The man pays. Great learning experience. The video is shared online in case other Thais don’t know. A Japanese nationalist account reposts the video: many Japanese netizens harshly criticise the Thai man, with many being racist and xenophobic, even attacking the man for not knowing how to insert cash into the machine, calling him backward, a country bumpkin, and stupid, etc. Thais reacted by criticising the Japanese for their uptightness, saying how when Japanese tourists make mistakes, the Thai mindset and approach are to act calm and reasonable. Thais are confused why it’s so hard to adopt an “it’s okay” mindset, especially when no harm was caused. In Thailand, this is a quintessential mindset that Thais live by. The Japanese side responds and basically says it doesn’t matter… you’re in Japan, and the Thai man is practically stealing. Thais respond by saying, okay, understood but who attempts to steal and then goes to pay? Thais then pull out receipts of all the times Japanese tourists have behaved badly in Thailand, pointing out that bad behaviour stemming from moral bankruptcy like discrimination, sexual assault, and theft is more common from Japanese tourists than from Thais, with many cases making headlines over the past few years alone. Comments about Thailand being backward because the Thai man put the cash note in the wrong way were also met with confusion from the Thai side. In Thailand, QR payments and e-wallets are the default payment methods, and most Thais now adopt this new-gen banking tech. Japan is still a cash heavy society and relies on older infrastructure habits. It’s worth writing that not every Japanese comments are attacking the Thai man. Many are being reasonable and those who have travelled to Thailand have been pushing back against other Japanese netizens comments.

Iran goes underground Iran is hiding its missile arsenal in heavily fortified underground bunkers that even U.S. bombs may struggle to destroy, reports Bild. Military analysts say these facilities allow Tehran to preserve key weapons even under heavy strikes. According to their estimates, some sites are buried so deep in mountainous terrain that even the most powerful U.S. bunker-buster munitions cannot guarantee their destruction. Inside are storage areas, assembly zones, and concealed launch exits. One of the few options is to strike entrances and exits to try to block the bases. But how effective that would be remains unclear.

Ken Cao-The China Crash Chronicle
China’s “Carrier Killer” has failed spectacularly in Iran. In this conflict, Iran used Chinese-made CM-302 anti-ship missiles and HQ-series air defense systems, but they either failed to hit targets or were quickly destroyed by U.S. forces. Let’s start with earlier developments. Since February, the U.S. deployed major forces to the Middle East, including two carrier strike groups near Iran. War was on the verge of breaking out. To counter these carriers, Iran urgently purchased China’s so-called “carrier killer” CM-302 anti-ship missiles. The CM-302 is the export version of China’s YJ-12 missile. It is supersonic, has a range of about 290 km, and can strike large vessels. Beijing has long promoted it as one of the most powerful anti-ship missiles in the world. But in real combat, this “carrier killer” delivered a shocking result: zero hits! Investigations showed that many of the CM-302 missiles malfunctioned mid-flight and crashed, while the rest were easily intercepted by U.S. forces. Combined with U.S. Aegis combat systems, SM-6 interceptors, and electronic warfare, the missiles were neutralized with ease. There are even reports that Chinese technical personnel suffered casualties. The complete failure of these “carrier killers” not only damaged Iran’s confidence but also triggered global skepticism toward Chinese weapons. Rumors even suggest that Xi Jinping was furious, criticizing military engineers for pushing substandard equipment to secure funding, and launching internal crackdowns. This disastrous performance exposes a deeper issue: China’s military industry has long focused on paper performance rather than battlefield effectiveness. Weapons are not like consumer products. A sports car reaching 500 km/h proves performance. But for missiles, speed alone means nothing because if the enemy intercepts or jams it, the weapon is useless. A weapon must prove it can survive defenses and hit real targets under combat conditions. China’s approach to weapons development resembles consumer product design, chasing specs rather than real-world effectiveness. Take the CM-302: on paper, it looks impressive—290 km range, 500 kg payload. In theory, a few missiles could destroy a carrier. But that assumes the enemy is unprepared. In real combat, the opponent has layered missile defenses, electronic warfare, and early warning systems. Chinese weapons, designed without sufficient real combat considerations, collapse under these conditions, like paper tigers. This also reflects a structural weakness: China’s military has not fought a real war since the Sino-Vietnamese War. Nearly 50 years without combat means a lack of real battlefield experience, making it difficult to design weapons for actual war scenarios. As a result, Chinese weapons prioritize theoretical performance over proven effectiveness. In the global arms market, the most reliable weapons are those tested in real combat. Without that validation, even impressive specifications can be meaningless. Iran learned that lesson the hard way by buying Chinese weapons.

FOOD, INCOME, IDENTITY: WHY FISHERS RETURN TO BAJO DE MASINLOC | When 20 plus Filipino fishing boats stayed in Bajo de Masinloc despite a radio warning to leave, it was easy for the moment to be read as a confrontation. But for the communities behind these boats, the first order story is livelihood. Fuel costs are high, the catch is uncertain, and every trip is measured against daily household needs. Being pushed back is not an abstract loss. It can mean a day with zero income, and sometimes debt that carries into the week. #BajoDeMasinloc #Fisherfolk #Maritime #WestPhilippineSea #FoodSecurity #Livelihood #CoastalCommunities #PagAsa #Philippines

🇮🇷 Iranian soldiers in underground trenches on Kharg Island are posting photos and stating that they are ready to repel a possible US landing- 👇 🔹 Judging by the photo, the Iranians have already received FPV kamikaze drones produced by the Chinese company Shenzhen Beizao Innovation Technology Co., Ltd. This model is equipped with a 5.8 GHz frequency video transmission antenna. 🔹 The only threat that the US would face in a land operation - unlike Iranian standard conventional weapons - is precisely the large-scale use of medium-range FPV kamikaze drones within asymmetric warfare and ambushes carried out by operators… Otherwise, Iran does not have armored vehicles on land, nor can it offer organized resistance within the framework of standard infantry tactics against the US elite amphibious and land forces - especially considering they will have 100% air support… 🔹 Thus, if the US suffers losses in land clashes during the capture of the Strait of Hormuz islands, the vast majority will be caused by ambushes carried out by Iranian FPV drones… It is likely that Russian operators experienced in the Ukraine war are already on site. First country in the world declares energy emergency due to Middle East war Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has declared a state of emergency in the energy sector, citing risks to the stability of energy supply. The country is almost entirely dependent on imported oil, with about 98% coming from the Persian Gulf. Since the start of the war, fuel prices have already more than doubled.

These international media make it sound like the Philippines is the first domino to fall. Yes, a national energy emergency was declared; but it’s not because the Philippines is running out of fuel. The issue is the price, which the Philippines has no control over. Since PH relies heavily on imported fuel, it makes sense to get ahead of possible disruptions. Right now, gas stations are open, no rationing, jeepney prices are still the same, price freeze on certain items. and anyone can still fill their tank. So this is not a “we’re running out of fuel” situation. It’s more of a precautionary move to stay in control if things escalate.

@PhilstarNews Russian crude is trading at a discount right now ... this helps keep fuel prices down for Filipinos instead of paying a premium elsewhere. Energy security > political posturing. Good move by the private sector and Petron.

@MarioNawfal 45 days-isn't that remarkably specific? Does the Philippines rely that heavily on Iranian supply routes, or is Marcos Jr. Signaling a willingness to intervene should escalation directly threaten Turkish naval access to the Red Sea?
