@lastsigfig Not necessarily? And Iโm just trying to give you some advice from my lived experience, bro. Itโs fine to be really into medicine, good even, I think we all are or else we would have given upโฆ but donโt let it be your everything
English

@drrdemon Wouldnโt a brain injury affect someone similarly even if they had many passions and those passions happened to be intellectually demanding?
Med students are always optimizing for residency apps. Itโs a rat race. There is no mind reading to tell the liars apart.

I get why this take is popular, but I do think it is also okay to drown yourself in medicine.
It's a profession where your borderline autistic level of hyper interest can actually move the needle for people. What you do matters and searching for ways to improve on it is cool.

One of the most important things for people in medicine is to retain interests outside of it. Have hobbies. Read books that arenโt just medicine. Donโt make it your entire life. CULTIVATE AND MAINTAIN YOUR WHIMSY
English

@lastsigfig Unless itโs a brain injury ๐ but anyway, I can also tell you that I was asked in every single residency interview what my hobbies outside of medicine are, so if anything, thatโs a good reason to not make it 100% of what you think about lol

@drrdemon Recovery from a sudden loss of ability has more to do one's support system and resources than the specific passion that they can't practice. Life is what we make of it. It's too short to be worried about putting all your eggs in one basket. You can make new eggs.

As we approach the end of the SOAP process, I want to give a little encouragement. Please remember that this is not a reflection of who you are. Many wonderful students go unmatched each year for reasons unknown. Your dreams may be delayed, yet they are not denied. #match2026

@barbiebitch166 @SmoothBrainCri1 White ๐ซฉ probably wouldnโt be walking around free with all those convictions otherwise

@lastsigfig I wouldnโt want that for myself, my colleagues, anyoneโฆ maintaining other interests may save your life some day

@lastsigfig My parent was a doctor and it was their whole life and personality until a terrible medical event happened and they could no longer practice, at the peak of their career. I watched them become a shell of a person and spiral so deep into depression because they had nothing left ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ
