I have been an American voter for a half-century. 2024 is the 14th presidential election in which I have cast a vote. In every election I have voted for the candidate whom I thought would most likely govern on conservative, pro-American, pro-Constitutional principles.
Seven times the candidate I voted for in the general election won the presidency. Five times, my candidate lost. In only three out of 13 elections did the candidate who was my first choice—the candidate whom I voted for in the primaries—go on to win the general election.
Out of that experience, I offer two observations:
1. Voting is all about making the best choice from among the available choices offered to you. It's not about waiting for a perfect candidate or the candidate you wish were running. It is about picking the best choice from the choices offered.
2. In none of the elections when my choice for president lost did it ever cross my mind that I should take to the streets, riot, loot, set stuff on fire, deny the reality of the election, or otherwise seek to undermine the legitimacy of the electoral process. The day after the election I obeyed the law, went to back work, paid my (usually higher) taxes, and worked within the political process to elect a better candidate next time. To do anything other than that is un-American.
May God bless America. After five decades of flirting with Neo-Marxism, aborting babies, and recklessly disregarding family values and sexual boundaries, we don't deserve it. But may God in his mercy bless us anyway.
