@BrndnStrssng Wasn’t Oates’s initial narrative structure when it was just a novella to describe a nondescript blonde starlet’s ascent and only ID her at the end? Not entirely equivalent but a more interesting tactic nonetheless.

I feel like there’s a world in which this is both better and better received if the Blonde in question went unnamed. It’s perhaps easier to tell this kind of all encompassing “look how we’ve exploited starlets” tale with a stand-in.

Reminded a lot of Capone while watching Blonde. Both are nightmare tours through a haunted Hollywood via unknowable icons. Blonde attempts to reckon with the idea that deification is an exploitation in and of itself and while I don’t think it works, I admire the attempt.
