@SlackHQ I need the team involved to understand that this decision makes Slack an anxiety-inducing, miserable slog to use and wonder what chain of events led to thinking this should be expected behavior.
A lack of a preference toggle for this is a huge oversight, please consider adding.
@ericwbailey Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, Eric! We can see how a badge being triggered for those kinds of actions suggests there is a higher priority message needing attention. While this is the new expected behaviour, we'll think on this feedback. Thanks for sharing.
@SlackHQ Which setting in the new design in the notification preferences disables every new activity from showing up as a DM-level number increment on the workspace icon?
@SlackHQ I am not asking to disable activity view. I am asking why high priority notifications are showing up for things like emoji reactions, and why my existing preference settings no longer honor that.
@Slack Switching from a non-redesigned workspace to a redesigned workspace with new content won't scroll the viewport to the new, unread messages. It seems like the unread message is getting stuck and not updating.
@SlackHQ And how do I turn that off? A notification with a number should indicate a DM increment, and not every single tiny action every user has performed across every part of a workspace I am involved in.
@ericwbailey Hi Eric, it sounds like you might be referring to the activity notifications. If you have any unreads in your activity view then those will be badged.
@SlackHQ Is pinning workspaces on the redesigned sidebar a feature y'all would consider? Everything being flatted to one dot to indicate activity in all my workspaces isn't really working for me.
@ericwbailey Thanks for clarifying. We'll share this with our product team for consideration as we look to the future. Thank you for being honest with us.
@ericwbailey Hi Eric, we appreciate your feedback and we'll make sure it's noted for the team. Is there a particular feature making it harder for you to see these notifications so we can better understand?
@SlackHQ My anxiety is now through the roof because I now have no quick way of scanning to know if it’s a friend DMing me or there is a work matter that needs immediate attention.
I don’t appreciate being opted into this without consent. Also happy to discuss my experiences if it helps.
@ericwbailey Since we rollout new features gradually some customers may see the new design before others. while there isn't a way to opt-out of the rollout, we appreciate you bearing with us!
@SlackHQ I know redesigns are not easy, especially for something so public. Is there a way to opt-out until this is globally shipped? Only having it available for one workspace is really negatively impacting my ability to do my job well.
@ericwbailey Appreciate the feedback on our redesign here, and the feature request to make accessing workspaces easier. We will share thoughts here with the rest of our team.
@alexleestine303 I work on GitHub's accessibility team and share a lot of your frustrations and concerns. I'd love to get you connected to the right folks over here, if I'm able. Is there an email you could share in a DM that I could pass along?
Recently, I have noticed a large increase of accessibility issues on the @github website.
- Unlabeled buttons.
- Lack of focus management.
- So many headings they are no longer helpful.
- Lack of functionality for keyboard users, direct linking to lines of code for example.

@ericwbailey I had wanted to do this for design systems. Would love to figure out how you made it. Is it open source? If not, no worries. :) Also once I get my new site launched, I'll join this one. :)
@ItsCrisDiaz Not a problem if your site is in Spanish at all! As for adding yourself, the two required steps are 1) adding the code snippet, and then 2) create a PR updating `members.json`: #i-want-to-add-my-site-to-the-webring" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">github.com/ericwbailey/a1…
