シェイクスピアの故郷ストラトフォード・アポン・エイヴォンを拠点に活動する、世界最高峰の劇団「RSC(ロイヤル・シェイクスピア・カンパニー)」の皆さんの前で、 マクベス夫妻を演じることができたのは、 僕の26年間のシェイクスピア人生で、最も鮮烈で運命的な時間でした。 憧れ続けたこの場所に立つことができたのは、不思議な力の導きです。 シェイクスピアが繋いでくれた、本当に、本当に不思議なご縁なんです。 まるでシェイクスピアオーディションのような気持ちで、 これまでシェイクスピアと向き合ってきた全てを、文字通り全身全霊をかけて演じました。 いつも大きな力をくれる時広真吾さんの衣装を身に纏って。 RSCのピアニストTomさんの生演奏とともに。 マクベス夫妻の道行、 罪に苦しみ夢遊するマクベス夫人、 夫人を包み込むマクベス、 哀しみと孤独に抗いながら籠城し、 そして、“Tomorrow”スピーチへ 息を呑むような沈黙が会場を支配し、 それがどちらの沈黙なのか、僕には分からなかった。 もしかしたら全く伝わっていないのかもしれない… 目を閉じ、頭を下げたとき、 会場に鳴り響く拍手と飛び交うブラボーの声。 俄には信じられなかった。 二人で、双手礼。 "言葉は分からないが、それ以上のものが伝わる稀有な体験" "こんなによく知るマクベスなのに、驚きに満ちていた" "あのシーンで夫妻の愛をこんなに感じたのは初めてだ、力強く、美しい" "凝り固まったシェイクスピアのイメージを解きほぐしてくれた" そんな言葉を次々にいただきました。 日本でシェイクスピアをやり続けてきて、 シェイクスピアの本場で、こんな想像だにしない瞬間が待っていたなんて、 信じ続けてよかったと、心の底から思いました。 ありきたりな夢を遥かに超えた夢のような時間。 いつまでも、あそこにいたかった。 RSCの皆さま、本当にありがとうございました。 The Other Placeをあとにし、 ゆっくりとストラトフォードの空気を吸って、しばらく天を見上げました。 すぐそばを流れるエイヴォン川の水の匂い。幾分か冷たい風の肌触り。 シェイクスピアの声が聴こえるようでした。 この先、見えない運命がどう転がっていくのか分からないけれど、 一つ確かなのは、ストラトフォードでのG.GARAGE///作品上演に向けて、確かな一歩を踏み出したこと。 一歩一歩、明日へ明日へ、 最後には、マクベスが言うように辿り着く場所は決まっているなら、 せっかくなんで行きたいところへ行こう。 情熱を絶やさぬように。 劇中写真は、また送られてきたときに改めて。 ストラトフォードとロンドンの旅の記録は、まだもう少し続きます。 楽しみにしていてください。 日本から、そして世界からご声援くださる皆さまへ。 イギリスから、心からの感謝を込めて。 #RoyalShakespeareCompany #GGarageShakespeareDoCompany #GGarage #河内大和 #真以美 #時広真吾

@AmbJapanUK Excellency, may I recommend a visit with Paddington to the @Russell_Cotes Museum in Bournemouth to see the Japanese artefacts brought back by the Russell Cotes from their Victorian era visit to Japan. An excellent museum and gallery.

@kazOrom Yes, passports are expensive in the UK now (over £100, which is 22,000 to 25,000 yen depending on whether the application is online or on paper!). They were almost as expensive when I last renewed mine but I haven't been anywhere yet since renewing it. They last for 10 years.
