it's funny that we might be closer than ever to all the left's marxist dreams: post-scarcity, end of wage labor, etc. but many of them still won't take AGI seriously. the thing that could actually deliver it. instead it's denial and cope.

@ohlennart Sure, under a different set of social institutions, but the most likely outcome now is that AGI either kills everyone or is controlled by Musk, Altman, Amodei, Bezos, Zuckerberg etc. They will have no qualms about letting the "surplus" population die

NEW: If Waymo gets its way, 2 million workers will be out of work. When Waymo gets a firm hold on a city, wages go down. Some drivers now have to work 12 hours day, 7 days a week just to get by. This isn't inevitable — but Big Tech is spending millions to make you think it is.

AI on citations is the place with highest variance between good use and bad use. "Use the style guide and gimme Smith and Ricardo on trade. You know the ones" just worked perfectly. By contrast: "Find me a citation backing up the claim that..." = oh nooo, oh nooooo.
