@BookieBaz @CarlisleRaces What a contrast. I've raceread at the three Yorkshire point-to-points to have taken place this month. Races = 18. Winning favourites = 1. Ten or eleven very happy bookies at each.

Considering it was supposed to be competitive racing @CarlisleRaces today, the results were awful. There were 5 heavily backed favs that won and a couple of second ins. A good crowd was on and a good atmosphere ensued. The northern finals are a good idea but the good guys could have done with a few more results over the three days.

Sooooo... twenty years ago today, this happened. Still the best job I've ever had. Still the best job I ever will. Sadly, still among the shortest lived, too. But my God, writing full-time about your hobby under the tutelage of some amazing people takes some beating.

After a hugely enjoyable first visit to lovely @CarlisleRaces on the final day of ⁦@RacingPost⁩ Go North weekend, I’ve completed my full set of Britain’s racecourses. As with @KelsoRacecourse yesterday, I’m only sorry it took me so long to get to Carlisle. I’ll be back!

@mp_horseracing I was doing the racereading at this one. Never worse than a close up disputed second throughout, quickened up well to beat ptp winning machine Camdonian in receipt of 5lb but conceding him four years. A credit to the Clark family, but above all himself.

@stevenctilley @DizzyJB Best jockeyship in race was from Dale Peters. Pulled up Bowtogreatness as soon as he emptied. Had already jogged him back as far as the home turn so would've seen Go On Chez's antics. Temptation to retrace steps to try for a win if Chez had fallen, but knew he'd have got a ban.

On Silver Cup Day over at Fakenham we have the most unedifying spectacle of a four runner Hunter Chase, one was pulled up, one unseated, another fell, and the winner struggled to clamber over the last and stopped to a walk over the line. These races have no place in the sport.

They say write about what you know. Dunno whether the pieces on things I know how to write about are useful, appreciated, or even monetisable (not that that's ever been a motivation, or ever will be). I just know that when I'm happy, I write, and I'm writing a lot at the moment.

@MikeParcej Hard disagree. But then you'd expect me to say that. Always worth remembering that the Brits doesn't come even remotely close to representing the sum total of all that's out there. Even if it did, however, my life is better for CMAT sharing her music with us.

Absolutely 100%! The last time i had the misfortune to catch the Brits, some pathetic pipsqueak vandalised a mock Lamborghini on stage. I haven't bothered since!!
