@Dasmesee1 People had spider man 2 with hundreds of thousands supposedly playing it on PC b4 release. If it came out day one how many would have likely bought it verse what did later is obvious. They leave money on the table with their strategy for ports. Plain and simple.

@Dasmesee1 Playstation's problem is they dont have day one pc ports usually. Helldivers 2 blew up. This let's wait a year port it and wonder why no one bought it when they done played it on console already or probably pirated in that year already is complete nonsense.

@Critical_Scribe similar evaluation I think what would really make Persona or the Metaphor series stand out is more individual reasons to use characters over everyone does everything etc. like ffx or E33. Now its like fire emblem how everyone can just become a Wyvern lord and smurf. Ruins Balance

I’d qualify it under “great, but not amazing”. Objectively I’d say it’s an 8.5/10 and my subjective enjoyment of it is around the same. Gameplay wise the class balance felt extremely lopsided to physical for endgame, and the process of grinding for certain endgame classes just didn’t feel all that great either because it didn’t feel that organic to the flow of the game. The repetitive side dungeons were also disappointing as well, especially since their locales were so mundane and samey compared to the extravagance of the main story dungeons. Art style and world design outside of that was A grade though, loved how the game actually looked when it was getting into the wider world. Story wise it really just reads a lot like a basic fantasy novel in terms of themes and its delivery. There wasn’t a moment about its debates that made me to “hmmm, that’s an interesting view” but rather it’s just a lot of “well, duh” moments that anyone who has read fantasy regularly will have been exposed to plenty of times. The world in which it’s being delivered feels unique, but the themes and struggles felt too standard and “safe” in what it wanted to say. The fact that you’re presented as the only reasonable candidate for the world is a shame as well, since I think having an antagonist that actually had compelling points and wasn’t some “kill everyone” or “church bad” archetype would have done wonders for where the story could have gone instead. I did like the party members, and the VA for Strohl killed it just as much as he did Dion in FFXVI, but again a lot of the interactions do run into “this feels TOO familiar” and lack the usual unique delivery that Atlus RPGs tend to have. The whole thing just felt like it was playing everything too safe in comparison to what Persona and SMT usually throw out. Despite its outstanding world design and art style, it winds up feeling like a game that would land the most with someone who has little experience with the fantasy genre as a whole.

@Critical_Scribe Valid. Just pointing out almost anything could have been better than how they handled it. Plus imagine like the speed run strat where you have to get yuffie killed to skip her arch or something. It would also give another reason to buy rebirth to port data to the third title.

I do think that the usual “Remake bad” types don’t really contribute much to the conversation anymore, and are mostly there because they fall into the “want to be seen as correct” type arguers so there is nothing productive about engaging with them. However, using the industry, which is known for how terribly biased it is, as an appeal to authority is just bad argumentation. They haven’t been reliable indicators of quality for years now. The FF7 Remake trilogy is probably gonna be a one off. It’s very impressive that they’re gonna be releasing these massive games at a rhythm of about once every 4 years (Remake was announced in 2015), but given that sales have fallen off (I think it’s due to dumb exclusivity deals mostly) and the fact that these games are costly to make, it’s just not financially viable to pursue as a strategy. Would I personally like to see something like this for games like VIII and IX? Yeah, so long as they don’t make the same missteps with their writing (whispers, the “Will they make this a sequel or just a remake” question) I think it could be amazing, but I don’t think it’s gonna happen. I enjoy the games, but I can tell why others wouldn’t for sure. It’s not really down to the “cringe” or combat system, which is great and should be the standard imo, but rather the fact that it’s writing constantly makes it trip and faceplant at the conclusion of each game, killing its momentum and the player’s interest because they don’t commit to anything. Fumbling the big moment in Rebirth especially is just… oof guys, you were not doing well there. People just need to be honest about video game critique. This whole “I’m correct, no rebuttals” or “look at these shiny medals that don’t matter!” Dynamic of argumentation is entirely unproductive.

@Critical_Scribe Btw in the dream scenario where you get to pick a party member to die im killing Cait Sith. Obvious Choice. Maybe Red XIII to dodge Sora voice later on some play throughs.

@Critical_Scribe They could have even done a twist like now cloud dies instead of Aerith or something else and it would have went crazy. Like you could do different things and a different party member would die etc. Idk if they just didnt think the fallout of the wishy washy through or what.

@Critical_Scribe Sp if they do remakes again I'd like them to just be hard commiters. This is gonna be a reimagining of the timeless story. We are making changes it will be different and go for it. Or just do a 1 for 1. Not this weird cross hybrid that in hindsight becomes a strictly worse retell

@Critical_Scribe But it's not really a remake and they didn't commit overall. It's just way too wishy washy. Either do or dont basically and they walked it back despite teasing that they weren't etc and now it just looks like a strictly worse retelling.

@j21090 @Grrraowl @J19_Gaming89 But also getting to the final boss in an rpg and then still having millions of things to do and procrastinating endgame is a time honored rpg tradition. Even in og ff7 before final boss a lot of people did exactly that.

@j21090 @Grrraowl @J19_Gaming89 What difficulty did you play on? Most the people that said combat was boring went on the lowest difficulty or the medium one if they have good gamer skill and weren't challenged.

Yep, and that is why the internet and what people post on it isn't what the real world thinks. Max is spot on with his takes about the Final Fantasy VII Remake Series. Square Enix is hitting a lot of people in a good way with this series more than what the minority will say.

@Grrraowl @j21090 @J19_Gaming89 This is correct. I've always said people are allowed to like FF7 remake and Rebirth as well. I'm just also allowed to say the original source material was way better and you should play it if you want the real story. As good as E33 was it also has plenty of valid criticism.

@j21090 @Grrraowl @J19_Gaming89 Honestly I think that says way more about your tastes than E33. Most game of the years in history verse a game well known for padding and extra mediocre side content and strictly worse story telling than the OG source material. Everyone is allowed opinions tho even wrong ones.

@Grrraowl @J19_Gaming89 Yeah but because I think ex 33 is shit. It makes it shit. And genuinely think it’s shit compared the past 2 FF re games. I got so bored of ex33 I didn’t finish it. I’ve played and completed remake and rebirth near 10x in total.
