Feel terrible for the good people in Maryland @Preakness. The fact that the Belmont has been run at less than 1 1/2 miles 4 of the last 7 years hurts the Preakness just as much as the spacing.

But racing dosen't like people who are not born into racing, and who are not white, to be fans. So racings fanbase declines

@ghartman02 Taxpayer support? When I worked the Preakness I made a point of walking around a few blocks to speak to residents. Most had no clue what is really happening at Pimlico.

Mount Pleasant Meadows never had CAWs. They barely had bettors most days, but at least you knew the money in the pools was coming from the guy behind you in line at the window.

Saban Field @ Bryant-Denny Stadium, Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Seats +/- 100,000. Two tiny parking lots for gameday employees. The Stadium Stroll along Bryant leads to ample downtown parking just a mile away. Don’t have to be in Europe to pull this off.

@ShotTakingTime Eureka downs in kansas was closed for last 12? ish years but due to the gift(curse to racing but i digress) of HHR it is going to be back open and running TB's and QH's in the fall

@ShotTakingTime Bandera Downs and G Rollie white downs(first track to hold a pari-mutuel race in tx) still have their grandstands im pretty sure. Also in texas manor down just got torn down like a year ago. Arizona Downs is still there 99% sure. Rillito. lot of the fair tracks in great plains

Shockingly they reopened Chicagoland after 7 years of abandonment (the YouTube explorer videos were grim) which got me thinking. Are there any recent track closures just sitting there vacant rotting away? Most get redeveloped fairly quickly. AC maybe? Freehold still intact?
