Heading out of Houston after a very productive and enjoyable couple of days at the Rice Energy #HPC #AI Conference this week. Thanks to the committee for inviting me to the opening panel and for putting on a great event as always. Onwards to my next stop.

Blue sky and sunshine - haven’t seen much of that recently … nice location for some calls before I head to meetings.

Used the long flight to rearrange the app icons on my iPhone screen … so now I’ll spend all week not being able to find my apps quickly!

I used to visit Houston several times a year in my previous role but as far as I can remember this is my first visit to Houston since joining Microsoft 6 years ago - here for the always excellent #Rice #EnergyHPCAI conference #HPC

Ridiculous traffic problems at @manairport yet again - people at risk of missing flights trying to get to T2 drop off - how can MAG pretend anything other than that the T2 saga has been a disaster of planning and execution.

@manairport Maybe @manairport should actually listen to the feedback of being voted worst airport in the UK for several years running instead of arguing about it and pretending it isn’t real.

@manairport However the outside of @manairport - traffic, arrangements for drop off and pick up, parking, etc. - are all an embarrassment for the region and the country.

@IanCutress Yes, same - long haul upgrades and last minute short haul have been my most common or best use of miles/avios. Long haul upgrade availability seems to have evaporated over the last year or so.

@hpcnotes Historically the 'value' has been in long haul upgrades, but their availability has been few and far between. Always useful for short haul, but I simply don't spend that many. Also those flights you pay for count towards status. If you buy avios direct and boost, nada.

@IanCutress Ian knows all this stuff as well as I do, but for anyone else who wants to learn more or get best value for your Avios, airmiles, hotel points etc. then make @HeadForPoints one of your daily reads.

@IanCutress But if you have limited cash, then the value of buy a ticket with Avios (even if “expensive” on Avios terms) might be that it preserves your cash for something else.
