I made a decision to not speak on my personal experience with bcers before, because to do so felt I was giving them a platform and engagement. However, I see a lot of ARMY are very quick to forgive and let it go, and now is the time I think I should speak on it. At the height of all of it, a member dropped a solo release. I, maybe stupidly, thought we could all find common ground. So I ran a match challenge - if you buy the album, donate the same amount to help. It wasn’t a breakthrough, but collectively we raised about 5k in direct donations (nothing was sent to me, I just asked people ss to pass along). I was overwhelmed with QRTs and DMs from those that felt I was a pariah for buying an album. So even though I was working towards a common goal - helping those who are facing a genocide - I was receiving DTs, wises of harm, and called a ton of names. I am very honest here that I struggle with mental health, and the absolute cruelty that was sent my way legitimately did make me consider their words. The thing is - I never said anyone had to buy anything. I only said hey if you’re buying the album, match it in a donation to help. That’s it. I say this not as a sob story, I reported and blocked every single person. But it’s to say that not only did these folks harass the members, they harassed those of us some of you consider friends. So when you decide it’s fine, let them back in, remember they wished for a lot of us to end ourselves. I’m not here to speak intent - I believe in nuance and I believe some did what they absolutely thought was right. But that level of vitriol, that hope for harm over someone supporting a musical act, is not something I will forget. I never once told anyone they could not do what they felt was right for others, I only asked to not be threatened for also trying to help in a different way. What I learned is that no one wanted common ground - they wanted to dangle moral superiority like a badge on social media. This is why we call it performative. Be who you are. You want to not give money? Totally fine. But don’t try to loophole your way into having your cake and eating it too. So when I see things like this - those who word soup their way into acting like what they’re doing is fine - yeah, it does make me frustrated to see so many willing to defend them. I’m not here to fight against this person or anyone, I am choosing to follow what they wanted from the start - to see them as someone who is not a part of the fandom they hated for so long. I’m sure I’ll get the rude QRT or the “I’m not reading all that” snark comments. I don’t care. I’m not checking notifs. Say what you please. I didnt make online hate my personality. I joined a local group, I protested, I wrote and called to my representatives, and I donated. And I did that without ever wishing harm on someone else.
