@Lizadorauk I love jump racing, however ridiculous decisions like this to run a 12 year old in his first gold cup after stamina doubts in his prime don’t help the sport at all. He was never going to stay on so should have been pulled up when his chance was gone. Depressing 😡.

@JamesOnTheSteel @Lizadorauk 100%. Putting blame on stable or rider is well wide of the mark. A very sad incident that can happen any horse at any age.... and indeed any human at any age. Legend of a horse. Trying to turn this into a horse welfare story is ridiculous

I completely agree. But, like I say, what lessons would we learn here? IMO there are times to improve welfare, and we should not hesitate at any of these opportunities, and there are times to accept that we could simply not have got any more unlucky. This occasion falls into the latter.

Seeing plenty of after-timing about poor Envoi, largely obvious emotional reactions wishing we could stop those incidents happening… but we can’t. What lessons need to be learned though? What do people expect us to do more of here? Pull him up? He was popping the fences lovely, just being niggled at, being asked no serious questions. Highland hunter was pulled up 2 years ago in the ultima and similar happened to him, would people have pulled Many Clouds up too? Don’t let them run? He’s a grade 1 winner this season, Royale Pagaille also grade 1 placed in the betfair chase, in his 12yo season. Show me scenarios like this and I’ll show you Veterans loving their racing and rolling back the years 1000 fold. I understand the emotion but after-timing is useless and it feels as though it’s politicising a situation that could absolutely not have been any more cruel and unfortunate - but it was truly just unfortunate. FWIW I couldn’t be any more gutted. I was stood at the winning post, Envoi walked past me looking well, I shouted well done to him. At that point I left to go to the walkway out the back by the car park, to wait specifically for him and his groom to see if I could give the old boy a scratch, and wish him well into his retirement. Must’ve been there for 25 minutes, and I’d seen most GC horses bar him and Gaelic, before I heard what’d happened…

Always hard to know what to write tbh. He didn't deserve that. Lessons need to be learnt. RIP Envoi Allen 💔

We love Bob Olinger and Captain Guinness, and we love incorporating flatwork into our routine - which keeps the horses strong and supple!

Ruby saying on RTÉ that racing at Leopardstown should be December 23rd, 26th, 27th, and 28th rather than December 26th, 27th, 28th, and 29th?

@Rideout_Racing She should 100% go for the Champion Chase. Impossible to beat CD form around Cheltenham and she only gets 1 shot at history

Only By Night would run a belta in the QMCC imo! Her running style & jumping is so well suited to the demands of the race Don’t see her thriving over 2 1/2 on the new course in a Mares Chase Hopefully she changes Gavins mind before chelt! Thoughts X?

🔥 ONLY BY NIGHT comes out on top in the Grade 3 Barberstown Castle Chase after a thrilling finish with CHAMP KIELY. 👍 A proper Mares Chase contender but I wouldn't be ruling the Champion Chase out myself.
