+Cover Sheets on Leave Forms vs. The Six Principles of Mission Command: A Death Sentence in Disguise You say you believe in Mission Command. You quote ADP 6-0 in every OPDs. You nod solemnly when the CG talks “disciplined initiative.” Then you make a specialist get six signatures and a cover memo to take emergency leave. You just personally murdered every single one of the six principles: 1. Build Cohesive Teams Through Mutual Trust → You just taught 800 people their judgment is garbage unless a major blesses it. Trust = dead. 2. Create Shared Understanding → Nobody understands your intent because you never publish one. You publish 400-line Excel trackers and 148 line ex-checks instead. 3. Provide a Clear Commander’s Intent → Your real intent is “Don’t embarrass me and we must layer everything to mitigate risk." 4. Exercise Disciplined Initiative → You rehearsed the opposite 10,000 times. When the radio goes black, they will wait because thats how you operate 99% of the time or leaders risk careers. And die. 5. Use Mission Orders → Your real orders are 47 pages plus 12 annexes plus a cover sheet. Mission orders = extinct. 6. Accept Prudent Risk → You defined “risk” as a soldier taking leave without your holy signature. You will accept zero risk in Garrison you are a fool if you think it will work in combat. Every extra click, every unneeded approval, every cover sheet is an act of sabotage against the only thing that will keep your unit alive on the dispersed, comms-denied, drone-saturated battlefield that is reality NOW! You are rehearsing defeat—one memo at a time. Delete the cover sheet. Burn the tracker. Publish a one-page intent and shut up. Or keep lying to yourself while you train your formation to die politely waiting for permission that will never come. The six principles aren’t a philosophy. They’re a survival requirement. Violate them in garrison and the battlefield will execute you for it. No appeal. No AAR. Just body bags. Choose. Right now. Today. #CoverSheetsKill #SixPrinciplesOrSixFeet #army #lethality
