Penal disenfranchisement laws are discriminatory defects in our democracy. They disproportionately harm Black voters & other voters of color, and they are exactly what the Eighth Amendment's prohibition should cover: cruel punishment. Another unfortunate decision. #UnlockTheVote

Civil rights groups filed a brief at SCOTUS yesterday accusing South Carolina Republicans of gaming the system to try and get another election with an illegal congressional district in place. SC says June election is so close it shouldn't have to come up with a new one
