this is actually how they are paid.
in a previous life 12yrs ago, when i was dealing in matooke, this is how we paid those dudes to unload it from trucks.
we didn't pay them in cash... instead, they removed a few fingers per sack/bunch of matooke as their payment.

I was parked somewhere today and I watched these boys who transport and sell Matooke off the trucks. For every bunch they gave to a retailer they plucked out about five fingers and put them aside. Before long they have a heap which they will sell. Thieves everywhere!!
