Regarding this Parliament, I have been patient before, but this term there will be no room for leaders who seek titles without helping the people they lead. I am directing NRM leaders to return to the parishes and ensure that existing government programmes are lifting people out of poverty. I do not want to hear excuses about poverty while solutions already exist. Ministers and government officials who fail in this responsibility will be held accountable. This is Kisanja no sleep . Enough is enough.

I congratulate the Rt. Hon. Speaker Jacob Oboth Oboth and Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa and thank the MPs for carrying out their mandate of voting, peacefully and transparently. The NRM candidates obtained more votes than the NRM members in the House, and I note the votes our ally Mao took away. We shall address this because we want a united Parliament that serves our people better.

This evening at State House Entebbe, I met the first NRM Caucus of the 12th Parliament and welcomed the endorsement of Hon. Jacob Oboth Oboth as candidate for Speaker and Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa as candidate for Deputy Speaker. I congratulated them and reminded the Caucus that since the inception of the NRM, we have rejected bad politics. When choosing leaders, we must first ask what needs to be done for the people before asking who should do it. Politics must reject identity, religion, tribalism and gender chauvinism, and instead focus on solving people’s problems. Our priority remains wealth creation and social- economic transformation through productive engagement in agriculture, services, artisanship and ICT.

Government Repatriates Kony Wives and Children from Central African Republic Friday, 22 May 2026 Two young women and wives to Lord’s Resistance Army leader Joseph Kony were yesterday received at the UPDF Airbase in Entebbe after being flown in from Bangui, the Central African Republic (CAR).   Ugandan Ikol Grace, 33, and her two children, Ayuma Maria, 8, and Oryema Bosco, 2, and South Sudanese national Aniyessi Teregina, also 33, holding one of Kony’s orphaned children aged 2, were received and escorted from CAR to Uganda by the Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security (CDIS), Major General Richard OTTO. Ikol Grace was abducted aged 10 in 2003 from Amuria District while Aniyessi Teregina was abducted in 2006 aged 13 from Yambio, Western Equatorial state in South Sudan.  She will be facilitated to travel to her home in South Sudan in due course. In all, 8 Kony wives and 13 children escaped from captivity in January this year after their camp was attacked by an armed group south of Darfur near the border of CAR, Sudan, and South Sudan.   The other women, Congolese and CAR citizens, along with their children, were handed over to their families in the respective countries.   In 2023 and 2024, over 150 LRA returnees, including some of Kony’s wives and children were returned to Uganda from CAR after escaping LRA captivity.   CHRIS MAGEZI Colonel Acting Director Defence Public Information MoDVA/UPDF
