instead of more theories of imperialism, which become more general and meaningless as they apply to more things, ppl studied specific empires and colonies and their more specific legacies. The problems w overtheorizing is that the more it can explain the less meaning it has.

@AuthorialGail the issue has nothing to do with literalism, the two character compound has its own (modern) definition that is not a composite of the individual potential readings of the component characters in wenyanwen. it’s just not how words are formed or meanings read back into them
