It only took me the rest of the week, but in this thread is my recap of #AAPTSM23 I learned a lot and was very thankful for the encouragement to attend, connect with so many educators, develop in my identity as a physics educator, and support my learners next year!

@maalmeida85 @TeachWright @MrJoeMilliano In the "Arrange" menu for GraphSketcher, there's an "Add Jitter" command. You can plot the ideal points and have the computer make them a little bit off--or a lot more, if you add jitter more than once.

@SecaurPhysics @MartaStoeckel @hoffmanscience @maalmeida85 Using energy to solve projectiles problems is AMAZING and allows students to see connections. Using projectiles to practice kinematics is falling into the trap of doing too much kinematics in physics class.

Do any #modphys teachers cover free fall later on w/ 2DM or different models? I've been doing it with CAPM for years and may switch it up this year. Just wondering what others have done? Go physics!

@mrmalvikscience Since I have some students who take AP1 and AP2 concurrently, I do ray optics->wave optics then heat-> gases->fluids, then electric circuits->electrostatics->capacitors->magnetism->photons->modern physics. DM if you want some packets.

@MissStrunk In 1997, I was actively recruited to be a physics teacher in a large school district. In a second-round interview, I came out. All communication from them stopped. I called back, made the head of HR very uncomfortable by asking questions, but didn't get the job.

@RealMrSkyWalker My go-to, which may not be the best: an *unbalanced* force causes a change in momentum. If you get hit from both sides at the same time with the same strength, your momentum won't change. Same for Fg & Fn in this case. (Also--N2L is just conservation of momentum.)

Interviewing participants for a longitudinal NIH study sometimes leaves me speechless.
A participant recently chose to drop out b/c of their health. When recording this, I noticed their start date was when I was still in high school.
