if your minor child does a retrieval (usually before treatments like chemo) and they die before they are 18, that specimen will not become the parents property. legally, minors cannot consent to leave reproductive tissue to anyone and it will have to be destroyed.

if your spouse does a retrieval and they die, it does not automatically become your property. They would need to specifically leave it to you and have documentation with the facility that has it. If the will has different wishes, you will have to petition court and you may lose.

if you do an egg retrieval and end up not wanting/needing them, legally you can not sell them. you can only donate them. if you were not donor tested at the time of the egg retrieval, you may not be able to donate them either.

if you create an embryo with a partner, married or not, that embryo belongs to both people equally legally not just the mom.

I work in the fertility field and theres a few things that people are surprised by.
If you are doing IVF with a partner, most clinics require STD testing and your results are not covered under HIPAA once the embryo is created. Partner will know if theres something you’re hiding.

I find this take to be a real bummer because while emotionally intelligent men are not overly plentiful, they do exist, and it is okay to expect that. IMO women just giving up on men emotionally connecting is doing men a disservice.
