@karpathy Some things are not meant to be measured or defined. The beauty of a sunrise over the sea. The first cry of a newborn child. The taste of water after a long run. The deep sense of wrongness when looking at an AI generated picture of a cat - realistic, but not quite real...

Has anyone encountered a good definition of “slop”. In a quantitative, measurable sense. My brain has an intuitive “slop index” I can ~reliably estimate, but I’m not sure how to define it. I have some bad ideas that involve the use of LLM miniseries and thinking token budgets.

@ThreeUK have been trying for a while to get in touch to cancel my Three Broadband contract, but with no luck. Is there any way I can get in touch through X? Otherwise I'll just have to cancel my direct debit and see how it goes...

@fchollet Except no? All innovative ideas and inventions have been judged, historically, on the basis of the often unfounded fears they instilled and the potential they inspired, not on their immediate achievements.

These often-heard lines like, "consciousness is just a hallucination", "consciousness is just what it feels like to be an information-processing system", etc. sound nice, but they fail to address the hard problem, which is the existence of the subjective experience. Hallucinations and feelings are things that happen to an agent that already has a subjective experience in the first place. The explanation is assuming the existence of the thing whose existence it was supposed to explain.

@fchollet True, generally speaking, but... depends on the individual

@ThreeUKSupport for three and a half days now the signal in north N1 has been terrible - internet speeds in the order of 1Mb, even on 5G. Any news on when this will be resolved?

Non-democratic republics are now very rare. Non-republican democracies are a little more common in modern times. In any case, stop saying the US is a republic but not a democracy. It's both.

In the US on the other hand the power resides solely in the hands of the elected representatives. Which makes it a republic, as well as a democracy.

I've seen the democracy vs republic argument so many times I just want to set the record straight, even though I know no one will read this thread. The US is a republic AND a democracy. For contrast, the UK is a democracy but NOT a republic (it is a constitutional monarchy)...

Ever wonder why this huge building in NYC has no windows? Built in 1974 during the Cold War, 33 Thomas Street was designed to withstand a nuclear blast / fallout and to be self-sufficient with its own gas and water supplies [📹 archi.student.helper] t.co/685udmqlo8

In the limit, the only two possible timelines are the machine apocalypse and the Butlerian Jihad. There is no middle ground that is stable in the long term. These are the two attractor points.
