CORRECTING A BASIC MISCONCEPTION: The scrapping of diesel-related taxes in our fuel matrix does not end fuel price reviews which are necessitated by external supply shocks which remain in place. I actually don’t know why this needless fret recurs with each season. One would think the fullness or emptiness of Mazowe Dam is on or by human instruction. The good thing is that Mazowe Dam fills up most of the good years, with or without this superfluous fret. In its time, at its pace!!!! Is it turns out, I drove past it last week and beautiful waters were already flowing in, mindless of this needless debate by people who can’t even locate its upstream or catchment. Mazowe Dam remains this depleted despite the ongoing heavy rains because we chose to destroy its upstream tributaries through gold mining, all in a bid to finance dollarisation. Today, we are witnessing dodgy Mazowe river rehabilitation manoeuvres under so-called Presidential schemes. Over the next 10 to 20 years, Zimbabwe will become increasingly dry even under heavy rain. In a century’s time, our dams will be severely parched and largely empty, and even boreholes will fail. Meanwhile, the proceeds from that gold are being squandered on Rolls-Royces and vast multi-storey mansions the size of Microsoft’s headquarters. And in the backdrop, there are massive uncontrolled communal settlements occupying patches of land left by Rhodesians as water channels. Rivers are no-longer flowing in the rural. Something has to give. Pathetic!!
