Today marks five years since the Communist Cuban regime brutally suppressed the peaceful July 11 demonstrations and yet again silenced Cubans’ cries for basic rights, dignity, and opportunity. To this day, hundreds of Cubans remain unjustly detained, suffering brutal conditions, for the simple sin of asking why Cubans cannot freely own businesses, participate in the political process, or provide for themselves and their families. The regime must release these political prisoners immediately. President Trump and I want a better future for Cuba, in which Cubans have greater opportunity, freedom, dignity, and Cuba ceases to harbor hostile foreign military, intelligence, terror, and subversive operations 90 miles from the American homeland. Laotian national Tou Lue Vang was convicted of sexually abusing a 10-year-old girl in Minnesota.  He was set to be deported until @GovTimWalz issued him a pardon. Then, I revoked his legal status. @ICEgov has removed him from the U.S. and he will never endanger another American.

Today @POTUS informed Congress of his intent to rescind Syria’s designation as a State Sponsor of Terrorism. This historic step opens new possibilities for economic opportunity and recovery, giving the Syrian people a chance at greatness.

Met with Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu and Republic of Korea Foreign Minister Cho Hyun on the sidelines of the @NATO Summit in Ankara. NATO's vital cooperation with Indo-Pacific partners strengthens global security and the cooperation between our three nations advances the safety, security, and prosperity of all of our nations.

I’ve designated the Ecuadorian gang Chone Killers as a Foreign Terrorist Organization and Specially Designated Global Terrorist. Ecuadorian gangs help Mexican cartels move and export illicit drugs to fund terrorism and criminal activity. The Chone Killers have attacked civilians, law enforcement officers, and government officials, including high profile assassinations of public officials. Working with President @DanielNoboaOk in Ecuador, we will continue to strengthen our regional security and ensure narcoterrorists have no place in our hemisphere.

For decades, the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the People – or “ICAP” – has been a vehicle for radical left-wing extremism and subversive foreign influence in the United States and across our hemisphere. ICAP is the Cuban regime’s premier influence and intelligence front group, exploiting its vast global network to spy on Americans, promote anti-Western propaganda, coordinate foreign influence operations, and organize revolutionary leftist movements around the world. Earlier this month, I designated ICAP and several other Cuban organizations responsible for engaging in subversive anti-American activities, pursuant to sanctions authorities created by President Trump’s Cuba Executive Order. This week, I terminated the legal status of Carlos Antonio Lloga Dominguez, a former ICAP official who maintains ties with the organization. Lloga Dominguez and his wife and son are now in federal custody pending removal from the United States. America will never become home for foreign communists who peddle propaganda, run subversive influence operations, or support radical anti-American movements within the United States. Transact with ICAP and you will be sanctioned, prosecuted or deported from our country.

Met with Tajikistani Foreign Minister Muhriddin to discuss expanding commercial opportunities in critical minerals. We also talked about our continued cooperation in security and counterterrorism and the importance of engagement through the C5+1 diplomatic platform.

Met with Libyan National Army Deputy Commander Saddam Haftar to discuss unifying Libya’s military and building the conditions for lasting peace. The U.S. will continue working with Libyan leaders and international partners to support a more peaceful, unified, and prosperous Libya.

Met with German Foreign Minister @AussenMinDE today to discuss the situation in the Middle East and reiterated our shared commitment to ensuring Iran never obtains or develops a nuclear weapon. We also reaffirmed the need for NATO burden shifting and a durable peace between Russia and Ukraine.

Against impossible odds, hope endures. 🇺🇸 American search and rescue teams rescued an infant from beneath the rubble following the earthquake in Venezuela. Every life saved is a victory.
