@aphorism_monkey @mindstalk 20 kilometres isn’t a typical trip in Ottawa unless by “typical trip” you mean “commute from the outer suburbs like Orleans to downtown”. People in the Netherlands don’t typically do 20 km trips by bike, they do them by transit or car.

It’s interesting how people perceive road fairness differently. Even the most bike-friendly parts of Montreal have more car routes than bike routes, but because cars are big and have problems with congestion, some consider it an unfair prioritization of bikes.

@UkNatArchives That distinctive aroma is one of those sensory-tingling experiences we've missed here @tcdlibrary Long Room since we've been giving our collections a deep clean, before boxing and decanting as part of the Old Library Redevelopment Project. Upside is they'll be preserved longer!

You know how archives have that really distinctive smell. That's the smell of the paper dying.

@ABetterOttawa It's not even about prioritizing people for this, it's the city authorities realizing it's not safe to have cars drive when thousands of people will be on the streets... Ottawa is the ONLY place I know that allows this type of situation

@ABetterOttawa Turning on red lights, slip lanes, orange lights that change too fast compared with speed/breaking distance (combined with red light cameras) which encourage ppl to speed through... to my E.U brain this city is basically unwalkable

@ABetterOttawa @PhilRaoult One super easy way to improve Lansdowne without actually changing much is to improve the delineation between what is a pavement and what is a road, right now people walk onto the road without noticing... its just terrible design 1/2

@OccTranspo I dont know whats worse... @OC_Transpo service or the fact they 'invested' in something that can in all likelihood only store six bikes comfortably...

OC: Bike park and ride are a premium service. We need to recoup the maintenance costs. Also OC: Park and Rides are free as they promote economic growth and ridership. Resurfacing a parking lots, with our pals, for hundreds of millions is the cost of business.
