DfT & HS2 have both been in denial about the fact that HS2's proposed speed would reduce the number of trains that could run every hour. Worse stil, the track alignment is for 400km/h trains which added far more unnecessary costs. Driven by speed, not capacity. @BBCNews

Without its 'superlative' speed p1ssing-contest aspect removed, what is the point of #HS2 at all? It's obviously totally unnecessary for 'capacity'. As any perusal of the ORR origin-destination matrix demonstrates.

The March 2026 #hs2 report to Parliament implies there are savings in the "'low billions" from not running trains at 360 km/h, including obviating the need to send them abroad for testing "at that speed". This sounds like baloney.

@belebenso They all seem very keen to blame the Tories, but the original specification, including the speed and the essential route date from Gordon Brown's Labour government.

Reducing the speed of #HS2 now is an insult. A slower speed line could have avoided ancient Woodlands, it could have avoided more communities. Now we have needless destruction baked in.

At this stage, actually completing #hs2 phase one is just a face saving exercise. Everything else is gone. It's clearer than ever that the speed is not needed, the capacity is not needed, the railway is not needed.

@DPJHodges Farrage is making the classic mistake of playing to his cult, and not much else. A wide loving of the dim on twitter does not translate to the ballot, it is what happened to the Corbinator, convinced he was going to win by only talking to his cult.

There's no doubt now that Reform's vote share is declining. For a period last year they were flatlining. But now they are definitely slumping. Farage's mistakes are having a tangible impact.
