Too many young people are resenting Boomers, claiming that Boomers had it " easy " financially in their youth. Here are a few fun facts about growing up Boomer. 1. Almost everyone grew up with one bathroom. Mom, Dad and all 3-6 siblings. 2. If you did get to take a vacation, you drove. With no air conditioning. No cup holders. No iPads. Just black vinyl seats and bologna sandwiches. 3. There were no club sports. No Parks and Rec activities. Summer camp was for rich kids. Get yourself a bike, a stick and a few friends. If you were bored, you laid in the grass and looked at clouds. 4. You ate what was served. Even if it was chicken livers. No DoorDash, no backup Totino's rolls. 5. No AP classes, no PSEO, no "fun" elective. They assigned you to a class. You went. You did what they asked. Or else. 6. Unless you had rich parents, you had a nice VFW wedding. Maybe rent a room at a modest hotel. 7. Most Boomers got their first pedi and mani in their 50s (when their feet got farther away). We didn't even know people got massages in real life, only in Hollywood. 8. You packed your own lunch for decades. 9. No one knew what red light therapy was, a facial, a spa day, or a cold plunge. Your gym was the YMCA. Usually in a rather old building. 10. We grew up with 18 percent inflation, 14 percent mortgage rates, 3 million continuing unemployment claims, and 200 other applicants competing for the same job. Now, this is not to say Millenials and Gen Z have it easy or don't face problems. It's just to say, nobody has it easy or doesn't face problems. My only hope, as my mom would say, is I live long enough to see my kids' kids complain about how easy they had it!

Grateful to have been invited to the White House this afternoon for a luncheon with religious leaders, where I offered an Easter prayer. Even in the halls of power, the hope of the Resurrection is proclaimed.

Today was my first experience actually being scared on an airplane. On a @united hopper plane, one of the engines blew out mid-flight. I was asleep when it happened, so I missed the big "Boom" and the sinking of the aircraft that people said they felt. I woke up to the flight attendant quizzing the exit row on the specifics of the emergency procedures and assigning roles to the passengers. I thought to myself "This woman takes her job VERY seriously..." Then I looked back and saw several people repeating words over and over out loud. They were praying. I was like...something is really weird here. Then the man behind me filled me in - the engine was blown and we were making an emergency landing in Jackson. We didn't know how the landing would be, and they would have fire trucks and emergency vehicles waiting for our arrival. They asked everyone to get in brace position, head against the seat in front of us and hands down, as the plane sunk lower and lower. I was looking out the window to see if we'd make the runway...all I saw was trees and water. Several grown men around me had broken into tears. Couples were holding hands. We really didn't know if the flight was going to make it. When we got close enough to the ground for cell reception, I took out my phone and sent "I love you" to the people who I would want to have that as my last message to them, just incase. I was surprisingly calm during those moments. I didn't know if we'd be ok, but I thought to myself, if this is the way I'm going to go, there's not really much I could do, and not much I would have done differently. I felt gratitude for the incredible blessings I've had in my life, and I felt peace. In the end, we made the runway. No one was hurt, and the pilot made a great landing given the circumstances. I was the first one to start the applause and the rest of the plane immediately joined in. We watched the firemen scope out the plane (hence the photo) before they let us off. People were shouting praises of whichever higher power they subscribed to. I did tear up a bit after we landed, feeling grateful that I could continue on this journey, hopefully for another 40+ years. But it was a stark reminder that no moment is guaranteed, and it all could go away at any moment. It's really best to live with that in mind.

I’ll never get over the fact that a woman could potentially get arrested for having a miscarriage in this country while predators who target children and women are walking free among us, yes, including people tied to Epstein. And we’re supposed to believe this system protects women?

I'm an American trauma surgeon. One year ago today I was volunteering at Nasser Medical Complex in Gaza when Israel fired a missile into the room of my 16-year-old patient, Ibrahim Barhoum. The missile killed him instantly. If it had hit the room 90 seconds later it would have killed me, too. Today the US and Israel are still blocking medical supplies from entering Gaza, and are repeating the assault on hospitals and healthcare workers across Lebanon. This is nothing but barbarism. It must be stopped.

Sister Anna Maria of the Sacred Heart, an Italian nun, turned 106 on March 14 at her monastery near Milan, where she continues to serve her sick sisters and share reflections on the Gospel on YouTube. Still lucid “in thought and word,” and with 36 years of life in cloister, the nun belongs to the Adorers of the Blessed Sacrament, the Italian newspaper Il Giorno reported. Despite her advanced age, she continues to participate daily in Eucharistic adoration even during the night and assists in the monastery’s infirmary, caring for elderly or ailing nuns. Her birthday celebration took place with a Mass of Thanksgiving and a gathering with family members, experienced through the grilles of the cloister where Sister Anna Maria remains dedicated to prayer. “I do this like so many other things, out of love for Jesus who continually asks me to love my neighbor,” the religious, whose name before entering the convent was Anna Perfumo, said in a video shared by her community. “The years are many, but ... with patience, God’s will shall be fulfilled. Pray for me, and I will always remember you on earth and in heaven,” she added. According to Il Giorno, the nun’s life was marked by hardships from the very beginning. At 4 months old, she contracted bronchopneumonia — a condition that was practically fatal in 1920 — and at age 4 she came down with scurvy, a disease that was incurable at that time. “The doctor told my mother: ‘I won’t be coming back tomorrow, because the child will be dead.’ Yet I was miraculously healed,” she said. Before entering the monastery, she worked for years as a governess and schoolteacher in addition to caring for elderly and infirm priests. Nevertheless, she always harbored in her heart the desire to consecrate herself to God in the contemplative life. That longing was finally realized at the age of 70, following the death of her mother. After several attempts, she was admitted to the Adorers’ monastery in Genoa, from where she would be transferred years later to Seregno, where she currently lives. In a video, Sister Anna Maria expressed her gratitude for the expressions of affection she had received and spoke about her late vocation: “It’s true; I had to wait quite a long time before fulfilling God’s will. But when it is God who desires something, it will always come to pass. That’s why one must have great confidence, great faith, great hope, and great patience.” In her message, she also shared a reflection on the passage of time and on faithfulness: “My grandfather used to tell us that it’s faithfulness that keeps us young and that it’s necessary to keep our eyes and souls open to what is beautiful, good, and true; in this way, one will experience a serene old age. Love keeps the heart young.” Finally, she extended a greeting for the Easter season: “Life is Christ — the Way, the Truth, and the Life. May the Lord grant you peace and joy... and also peace among peoples, for the sake of fraternity among nations.” The Perpetual Adorers of the Blessed Sacrament are a contemplative, cloistered order of women whose life is centered on the continuous adoration of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. Their mission is to intercede for the Church and the world from the silence of the monastery, offering their lives as a constant prayer. The congregation was founded in 1807 in Rome by Blessed Maria Magdalena of the Incarnation (Caterina Sordini) with the charism of Eucharistic adoration. ewtnnews.com/world/europe/1…

I continue to follow the situation in the Middle East with dismay. Like other regions of the world, it is torn apart by war and violence. We cannot remain silent in the face of the suffering of so many defenseless victims of these conflicts. What wounds them wounds all of humanity. The death and pain caused by these wars is a scandal for the entire human family and a cry that rises to God!
