None. Every country Israel has conducted military strikes against—Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Iran, Yemen, Tunisia—had either attacked Israel, issued explicit threats of attack, or hosted/supported groups (PLO, Hezbollah, Hamas, Houthis) that planned or executed attacks on Israel. No exceptions in the historical record.

Canada is in a quiet democratic crisis. With 5 MPs crossing the floor to join the Liberals, the will of Canadian voters is being undermined by Carney's desire for a majority and the perfidious nature of those enabling him. For our democracy to work, Canadians must be able to trust it. Floor crossing undermines that trust. cbc.ca/news/politics/…

Here’s a wild idea. Maybe instead of issuing statements condemning Israel for defending itself, Carney could put together a coalition of fellow European states that could go in and do the hard work of disarming Hezbollah. Otherwise put a cork in it.

So, (a) Iran provides Hezbollah with money, arms and direction, and (b) notwithstanding the "ceasefire," Hezbollah continues to fire missiles at Israel, but (c) Israel is supposed to be OK with that? Is that what the Prime Minister of Australia and other morons are saying?

What Canada needs? A right-of-centre Canadian billionaire with guts and thick skin to buy a major TV and radio network and present an alternative viewpoint on our airwaves. Right now the airwaves are ALL leftist.

Then it'll collapse and Canadians will die. I've largely accepted this and have arranged other plans. I'd encourage those reading this who have the means to do the same.

@Zee0731 Prior to 1991, Petro Canada had a bloated staff of 11,000. That was reduced, after privatization to 5000. Government takes more than twice the amount of people to do the work of the private sector.

Liberals built a national energy company so Cdns could benefit from Cdn resources. Conservatives sold it off. Petro-Can is now part of Suncor, a private company. The public stake is gone. And this is the pattern: Build it,sell it, lose control and says it’s the Libs fault.

Let's say we built a new passenger line that averaged 150 kph: Toronto-Peterborough-Ottawa-Montreal, on the old disused CP right-of-way. Properly managed (I know, I know), it would be reliable. Wouldn't have to compete with freight. And it wouldn't cost hundreds of billions.

When I lived in Montreal, the fastest train to Toronto was scheduled to take 4 hours flat — and sometimes actually did it. That's an average point-to-point speed of 135 kph.

It's been five years (and 330~ articles) since I joined the @nationalpost as a columnist and, oh boy, what a journey it's been. Writing for the paper changed my life, and I still feel pangs of incredulity knowing that I get to professionally talk shit about brutal dictatorships – and expose drug scandals! and other cool things! – for a living. My colleagues are great. Collectively, we provide a much needed counterweight within Canadian political discourse, which has (in my humble opinion) made the country a better place. So cheers to that, and to many more columns in the future. Thanks, @CarsonJerema, for taking a chance on me all those years ago.

One of the most impactful trends quietly sweeping Canada right now is the wholesale abandonment of legacy media. It's easy to get hung up on the one Boomer relative who is only ever served the fake, CBC-approved version of events. But there are YouTubers and podcasters you've never heard of with exponentially more reach and influence than any CBCer.

Campaign Against Antisemitism
Campaign Against Antisemitism@antisemitism·
On 16th March 1190, one of the worst cases of antisemitic violence in Britain took place in York. In 1189, Richard I was crowned, and announced his intention to join the crusades, sparking anti-Jewish sentiment and making many Christians sensitive to the presence of non-Christians in England. Rumours began to spread that the King had commanded attacks on Jews. In York, tensions erupted into violence. When an accidental fire broke out on 16th March 1190, Richard de Malbis took advantage by inciting a mob to attack the home of Benedict of York, the recently deceased Jewish agent of Jewish moneylender Aaron of Lincoln, to whom de Malbis was heavily indebted. Benedict’s widow and children were killed and the house burned. The following evening, Josce of York, leader of the local Jewish community, was granted permission by the constable of York Castle to bring a group of 150 of York’s Jews into the castle for safety. They took refuge in the castle's motte, which had a wooden tower called Clifford’s Tower. The mob surrounded the castle, and besieged the motte, demanding that the Jews be baptised and converted to Christianity. With no hope of escape, Rabbi Yom Tov, a prominent rabbi inside the tower, advised the other Jews to kill themselves rather than convert. Each father killed his wife and children first before turning his weapon on himself. The tower was then set alight so that their bodies could not be mutilated by the mob. Richard de Malbis had promised safe passage to any Jews who agreed to convert. A few took this option, only to be murdered as they emerged from the burning tower. Afterwards, the rioters destroyed the records of debts to the Jews, which had been placed in safe-keeping at York Minster. Around 150 Jews died in total in the massacre. The pogrom was one of a series targeting the medieval English Jewish communities. Today, we remember the victims of the Clifford’s Tower massacre.

Edmonton Mayor Andrew Knack is an object lesson in how the Canadian left has lost its moral bearings. He is attacking Edmonton’s Police Chief for a study trip to Israel with other big city chiefs. But within weeks of becoming Mayor, Knack flew to the People’s Republic of China for an official visit. So let’s compare: ISRAEL - The Middle East’s only real democracy. - Famously independent judiciary that includes Arab judges, a system that has sentenced Israeli Prime Ministers, Presidents, and IDF officers when found guilty of crimes. - Has a dynamic Parliamentary system that includes Arab parties who have been part of governing coalitions, and held the balance of power. - The only modern state founded by an ancient indigenous people in their historic lands after millennia of colonial occupation and genocide. The most successful historical example of decolonization. - The only Jewish state on Earth, whose raison d’être is to be a refuge for the victims of history’s most durable and pernicious hatred, born out of the ashes of the Holocaust. - Has been attacked by hostile armies repeatedly, including on the very day of its creation and recognition by the UN. - Has been the target of endless campaigns of violence by groups recognized under Canadian law as terrorists, including a pogrom two years ago involving mass rape and kidnapping that was the largest massacre of Jews since 1945. - Relative to its size, is the most innovative economy in the world, with more per capita patents, successful tech startups, and Nobel prizes than any nation on Earth. - The world’s most experienced police agencies in dealing with terrorism. PRC - Dictatorial one party state - Seven decades of violent oppression of political dissidents, ethnic, and religious minorities - The destruction of tens of thousands of Buddhist (mainly Tibetan) monasteries and temples; Muslim mosques; Christian Churches, and other places of worship - The ongoing prosecution of an active genocide (according to the Parliament of Canada, et al) against the Uyghur Muslim minority - The invasion, despoliation, and partial ethnic cleansing of Tibet. - History’s largest state sanctioned famine, the Great Leap Forward, during which 30 to 45 million people were killed. - Until recently, a brutally enforced One Child Policy that involved countless forced abortions and sterilizations - The continued use of forced labour concentration camps - The long standing world leader in executing people. - Currently engaged in the largest military expansion in world history - The publicly declared intent to use that military power to invade Taiwan, a peaceful neighbouring democracy, by 2027. - An expansionist / imperialist agenda in the South China Sea, including the creation of artificial islands as military bases, the harassment of Filipino & other fishing & naval fleets - Flagrant violation of Hong Kong’s Basic Law, including elimination of political and press freedoms, and the imprisonment of dissidents like Jimmy Lai. - Massive industrial and political espionage, including against Canadian targets, involving patent and IP theft - Massive interference in Canadian elections through the United Front Work Department - 25+ years of violating WTO obligations through massive unfair trading practices, currency manipulation, subsidization of key industries, et - Repeated arbitrary application of tariffs against Canada, including Alberta canola farmers during Knack’s PRC visit - Arbitrary arrest & imprisonment of Canadians, including diplomats, and Canadian Muslim Hussein Ceilil who has been imprisoned, without consular access, since 2006. - World’s largest & fastest growing source of GHG emissions. - Key ally of the world’s worst regimes, including Putin’s Russia and the Mullahs’ Iranian terror state. Etc. Let the record show that Edmonton’s “progressive” Mayor kowtows to the world’s largest dictatorship, but condemns the democratic Jewish homeland. For shame
