@toog416 I mean if she is eager to get married but isn't telling you anything about herself and she is basically still living with another guy? lol

@CarsonJerema Probably sound advice about marriage in general, even apart from the immigration angle.

“Postmedia formalizes the withdrawal of its 130 titles from Canadian Press, decimating the latter’s revenue and subscriber base of around 600 news organizations. “All Postmedia outlets have been ordered to stop using CP copy by May 21 and to scrub all CP content from their sites by May 25” — @Pagmenzies

@CarsonJerema I believe, though I may be mistaken, that you do not align with the separatist cause, yet you are still able to make this logical observation regarding the danger of activist courts. I wish more people could do the same!

I'd say an actual red flag for democracy is the cavalier way courts overturn legislation or, in this most recent case, toss out a petition for a referendum. Criticizing judicial rulings is the most democratic thing we can do.
The Breakdown@TheBreakdownAB

The contempt for the judiciary is ramping up. And it’s coming directly from inside Alberta’s premiers office. Attempts like this to delegitimize the judiciary are a huge red flag for democracy and 100% the tools of authoritarians. #abpoli #ableg #cdnpoli

@1295QueenVic @nationalpost Because its the only option. Ottawa has made it unattractive for market based decisions, so political decisions fill the void.

This is an unprecedented act of judicial law-making which will likely have wide-ranging ramifications, not least for the coherence of Canadian tort law. The length—249 paras(!) for the majority—is certainly consistent with a judgment that is essentially legislative in nature. 1/
Supreme Advocacy LLP@supremeadvocacy

The Supreme Court of Canada in a 6:3 split allowed the appeal in part in Ahluwalia v. Ahluwalia, 2026 SCC 16. The Court recognizes a new tort of intimate partner violence, grounded in coercive control and harms to dignity, autonomy and equality. #SCC decisions.scc-csc.ca/scc-csc/scc-cs…

@AdamAscended @onedery What constitutionality are you referring to? The kind where the courts just blatantly ignore the actual text and hallucinate meaning?

@onedery The massive expansion of judicial power since 1982 hasn't been imagined. Give the courts the power to overturn laws, and they will become politicized. The courts add all sorts of things not included in the constitution, in this case, the duty to consult.

@CarsonJerema Every time the right loses a case, they claim the courts have been politicized. There is another possibility that exists.

@onedery The ideological capture of the judiciary is a pretty serious issue. Pointing out that these are "Trudeau appointed judges" makes that argument clear. Perhaps a bit crude. But courts have been politicized.

@CarsonJerema There is a major difference between criticizing judicial ruling and issuing statements that "Trudeau appointed judges not speaking for Alberta."
