I have decided to stop being on X. I just seem to get trashy messages.

And got considerable grief at the time, as we questioned what exactly were the lines of accountability, we never really got a satisfactory answer. I was a lucky one and got to keep my Chief Officer until he retired.
Heidi Soulsby MBE@HeidiSoulsby

Pleased to see @PeterRoffey5 agrees with what I said at recent SMC hearing, that the civil service reforms of last term, in particular the eradication of chief officers, have been a big reason for the problems now coming out. Mind you @mkleclerc and I warned about it at the time.

@DavidPiesing63 @HeidiSoulsby @PeterRoffey5 King Edward closed for FTP savings, madness, would be interesting to see if the savings on all FTP have lasted longer term. States Property Services are responsible for the land and this site along with Castel Hosp. Was earmarked for the Gsy University, was always pie in the sky!

It’s not just Castel Hospital site, King Edward hospital site much easier and quicker to develop as well as Peruque House site, not then dealing with ancient building. I am not sure when the swimming pool at Peruque site was last used?
David Piesing@DavidPiesing63

@PeterRoffey5 @matt_fallaize @richarddigard @oldfarmhorace @Richard_D_E @MaryLowe501 How about bringing a Requete to force the redevelopment of Frossard House and Castel Hospital sites? Show the electorate that this States genuinely accepts the need for urgent action. Some don’t seem to recognise a crisis when it’s staring them in the face.

@PeterRoffey5 Thank you for update, agree that Care Home is required, just a shame King Edward had been left so long to deteriorate. It was pretty bad when Heidi and I checked it out in 2015.

@mkleclerc Hi Mich. We're told there's interest in the KE7 for a new care home. I know no details but if correct the use will be just as important as housing. We have a housing crisis but also a social care crisis. If that doesn't proceed I'd definately want to snaffle it for housing.

I am sure they will assess the risks and rewards of modular and make decisions accordingly.
James@jameswpen

@mkleclerc We need forward thinking on housing. Modular housing is the only thing that will get us to where we need to be with the lack of building companies with capacity. Let’s hope GHA are happy to follow that route.

Perhaps 2027, GHA are developing other sites but for keyworker, perhaps some of those could be split and perhaps CI tyres site could be used for much needed social housing. Other SOG sites would have been much easier to develop but SOG property services not handing over sites.
James@jameswpen

@mkleclerc But the application has been pulled so you’re looking at 18 months if the application went in now for planning approval plus another 6-12 months for a builder to start work, you’re looking 4-5 years before anyone can move in!

It is a planning requirement to assess flooding risks, so sensible to be reassured that risk is being taken seriously by SOG. My understanding is they are going ahead and putting in defence on the bridge. Expect building will commence when that has been approved.
Horace Camp@oldfarmhorace

@mkleclerc The flood defences? Is that a requirement of lenders and or insurers or a decision by the GHA? We know that States decisions are not reliable so if it waits until the defences are in, how many years will they have to wait to start building?

They have been directed by States to provide key worker housing. my question is what is being done to reduce reliance on keyworkers and how much do they actually cost tax payers? tax take, subsidies etc.
David Piesing@DavidPiesing63

@PeterRoffey5 @HeidiSoulsby @matt_fallaize @ChasMcHugh @GsySal @BBCGuernsey @JohnFernandez1 @Lindsay_Gsy What “legal risk”? Just get on with it! I’m amazed some deputies will even risk getting out of bed in the mornings. You either want houses built or you don’t. You either want to keep the island’s young here or you don’t. GHA seem to have virtually given up. Key workers only.

Fontaine still owned by the States and has tennant on it. Kenilworth is waiting for flood defences on the bridge to be approved by SOG and will then be developed by GHA
James@jameswpen

@DavidPiesing63 @ChasMcHugh @PeterRoffey5 @pvbsc1 @HeidiSoulsby @matt_fallaize @GsySal @BBCGuernsey @JohnFernandez1 @Lindsay_Gsy @GsyHousingAssoc What’s also staggering is how applications got put in for 250+ houses/flats on Kenilworth Vinery and Fontaine/Belgreve Vinery for all applications to be withdrawn. How much was spent on architects for nothing to happen?

Absolutely, but also grief from the then P&R Committee who seemed ok with the changes being implemented.
Heidi Soulsby MBE@HeidiSoulsby

@mkleclerc I think this has a lot to do with it. We did get a lot of grief when we challenged it didn’t we? We were briefed against to the media if you recall too. The absence of a Chief Officer in such a massive Committee was always going to cause problems when a new Committee took over.
