Our music students have enjoyed some exciting opportunities this month. Recently, Ariella (Year 11) secured a place to spend a day with Gonville and Caius College Choir in Cambridge. With places highly sought after, she rehearsed works by Dyson and Rutter, spoke with current Choral Scholars, and performed in an evensong service in the college chapel. Some students who attend Cre8 Theatre Productions on Fridays were also selected to perform with @denise_vanouten at The Apex. Enid, Lily, Leo, and Jess sang 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘛𝘪𝘮𝘦 and 𝘈𝘭𝘭 𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘑𝘢𝘻𝘻, describing the experience as unforgettable and praising Denise for her warmth and encouragement of young performers. Meanwhile, all Year 7 and 8 students were captivated by harpist Joy Smith, who shared the history of the harp alongside live performances on three instruments. It is here! The last Spotlight on Sport for the term and what a term it has been; full of sporting highlights and fantastic team efforts across the board. A huge well done to all PE staff and supporting members of the IHS community for bringing a love of sport to so many pupils across all sports and abilities. Before signing off, we would also like to take the opportunity once again to offer a very warm welcome to our new Director of Sport, Nick Platt, who will be joining us in September. We wish you all a lovely Easter break and look forward to more sporting highlights in the summer term. 🏉 Rugby Well done to our U13 rugby team, who finished 2nd in their group at the Howden Rosslyn Park National Schools Sevens. A fantastic achievement and a brilliant team effort! 🏏 Cricket Pre-season cricket is in full swing across both Prep and Senior School. We look forward to an exciting season ahead! 🎯 Pistol Shooting Pistol shooting practice continues in our sports hall under the watchful eye of Mrs Steele. Great to see pupils developing focus and precision. 🏑 Hockey Hockey matches in Prep continued - well done to the teams involved on their great performances. 🎓 Academic PE Last Friday, Years 11 to 13 Academic PE pupils visited the Human Performance Unit at the University of Essex for an exciting day of clinical testing and a biomechanics taster session. They gained valuable insight into sport-related degree courses while putting their knowledge into practice through a range of tests. A little friendly competition added to the fun, with Mrs Wheelhouse even putting the boys to shame! A fantastic and inspiring experience for all. 🏃‍♀️ Cross Country Anna has had a fantastic cross-country season, building on last year’s success. She travelled to Birmingham for the ISA National Final, finishing an impressive 6th place. She was also selected to represent Suffolk at the National All England Schools Final in Liverpool, earning her place through strong earlier performances. Competing in a field of over 400 runners, Anna finished in the top half and as the 4th Suffolk girl. A huge congratulations to Anna on an outstanding season! 🏃Half Marathon Madeleine took on the Hastings Half Marathon, tackling a challenging and hilly course in great conditions. She delivered an excellent performance, finishing in 1 hour 43 minutes and securing 2nd place in her age category. A superb achievement; well done Madeleine! 🏐 Netball A fantastic set of results from the ISA National Netball Finals: U18: 4th in their group, through to the Cup 👏🏼 U16: 1st in their group, through to the Cup, finishing 4th overall 🏅 U14: 2nd in the Bowl 🥈 U13: 3rd in their group, through to the Bowl 👏🏼 Brilliant performances across all age groups! We finished the netball season with matches against Woodbridge, and saw both our youngest and oldest teams play, including all Year 7 girls. We also say goodbye to our U18 Captain Hattie and Vice-Captain Isabella P. Well done ladies and we hope to see you on court soon. 🤸 Gymnastics WHHR’s trip to Pipers Vale Gymnastics Centre gave our youngest pupils a fun chance to build strength, balance and coordination. Highlights included the foam pit, beams, trampoline, and using the bars and rings – lots of smiles all round!

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Nick Platt as our new Director of Sport. Nick will join our PE Department in September. Nick has over 25 years of experience coaching and mentoring pupils across a variety of sports from the recreational through to the elite level. Having been Director of Sport at both St John's Leatherhead and The Royal Hospital School, Nick has overseen contemporary sport and physical activity programmes which cater for pupils of all abilities, via the breadth of sporting activities and wellbeing experiences on offer, as well as raising competitive performance standards. Nick has created performance pathways which have supported numerous pupils in reaching elite level in their sports, including those who have gone on to represent: The British and Irish Lions, England Men's and Women's Rugby, England rugby 7s, Saracens, Harlequins, Northampton Saints, Exeter Chiefs, Brentford FC, Celtic FC, Surrey & Middlesex CCC, Leicestershire CCC, Essex CCC, Team GB Sailing, Team GB Skiing, Surbiton Hockey & England U21, Surrey Storm Netball U21, as well as a Wakeboarding Junior World Champion. Before his move to Suffolk, Nick was Manager and Coaching Lead at Harlequins Academy, focusing on the Developing Player Programme, as well as an Elite Player Development Group coach at the club. As a school coach, Nick has produced some very successful teams across the various age groups in both boys' and girls' sport, including those teams which have previously won the U18 Rosslyn Park 7s tournament and Surrey U16 7s tournament, a number of unbeaten teams in rugby and cricket, alongside U10 national swimming finalists. Despite his experience of coaching at a high level, Nick's approach as Director of Sport is to ensure a love of physical activity for all and to maximise involvement and opportunity within a culture of engagement and enjoyment, with the aim of encouraging active lifestyles beyond school.

The boarders have enjoyed a busy term full of trips and activities in and around the local area! This term they have been pottery painting and go-karting in Ipswich, which we all thoroughly enjoyed. They were also able to watch the gala performance of the school’s very own Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. It was so lovely to see and support some of our boarders on stage in such an incredible performance. The trip to London Chinatown was also an amazing experience. The part of the city was wonderfully decorated, and the students all enjoyed eating the local food and being able to experience a special time of year in such a place. Careers at Ipswich High School take learning to new heights. ✈️ We were delighted to welcome pilots from @British_Airways, who brought a real Airbus A350 flight simulator into school. The team also delivered two engaging careers talks, one for Senior Pupils and one for Years 5 and 6. From teamwork and communication to pathways like the Speedbird Pilot Academy, our pupils left feeling inspired and informed about future possibilities. Classicists from Years 9–12 enjoyed an inspiring trip to the @britishmuseum, exploring the Parthenon sculptures, Greek temples, and Roman artefacts. Seeing these in real life brought their studies to life, and our pupils were exemplary ambassadors throughout.
