@MisterTaster @jacksonglidden it’s not a fair comparison. Portland isn’t a country with borders. People come from all over the US to Portland because it’s so liberal in comparison to other states. Portland is breaking under the strain of high taxes, rampant crime and drugs.

@jacksonglidden Here in New Zealand, the housing authority provides motel rooms to houseless people. The practice is controversial since most cheap hotels have a large houseless contingent. But when I describe to Kiwis the American practice of tent/RV cities, they acknowledge that's much worse.

Jefferson High School needs to change its name expeditiously. The fact that it’s in the historic center of the Black community is just insult to injury. Name suggestions: Charles Jordan HS, Joanne Hardesty HS, Malcolm X HS, York HS, Barack Obama HS.

@chaspinrad It’s difficult for a child to have “great mental health” when everyday they go to school and they know they’re struggling to learn. Oregon spends $12,000 per year per student but it’s ranked 44th in the nation. I have no confidence it will be effective.
