गेल्या अनेक दशकांपासून NCERT च्या पाठ्यक्रमाद्वारे इस्लामी आक्रमणकर्ते व मुगल साम्राज्य यांस गौरवण्यात येत होते. भारत देशाचा जाज्वल्य इतिहास आपल्यापासून लपवून ठेवला गेला होता. परंतु विद्यमान सरकारने या पाठ्यक्रमात पुराव्यांच्या आधारावर बदल करायचे ठरवले आणि या देशावर राज्य असलेल्या अनेक साम्राज्यांचा जाज्वल्य इतिहास या पाठ्यक्रमात समाविष्ट केला. इयत्ता ८वी च्या समाजशास्त्र या विषयाच्या पुस्तकात - Exploring Society: India and Beyond (First Edition - July 2025 Ashadha 1947; ISBN 978-93-5729-293-1) मध्ये Chapter No. 3 - ‘The Rise of the Marathas’ या मध्ये छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराजांनी बलाढ्य मोगल साम्राज्याला दिलेला लढा, त्यातून निर्माण झालेले हिंदूंचे स्वराज्य आणि पुढे त्यांच्या वैचारिक वारसदारांनी त्या स्वराज्याचे साम्राज्यात केलेले रुपांतर या सगळ्या घटना समाविष्ट करण्यात आल्या आहेत. यो सोबत मराठा साम्राज्य व मराठ्यांना खंडणी देणाऱ्या राज्यांचा एक नकाशा समाविष्ट केला गेला होता.
