Mining Principal Secretary Harry Kimtai today held talks with H.E. Zhang Zhizhong, the Deputy Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Kenya, who paid him a courtesy call at the office in Nairobi.

China and Kenya share a longstanding comprehensive strategic partnership with mining identified as a priority area for value addition and local processing of minerals.

Their discussions focused on deepening cooperation in the mining sector with an emphasis on boosting investment, fostering innovation in local manufacturing and advancing sustainable mining practices. processing of minerals.

Earlier, Mr. Kimtai met Mr. David Zambiye, a partner at Latham & Watkins LLP, and discussed ways of ensuring Africa’s natural resources truly benefits the continent as a whole.

Mining Principal Secretary Mr. Harry Kimtai held talks with Mr. Christopher Kirigua, the Deputy Head of Mission in Washington, DC, centered on unlocking investment opportunities within the mining sector.

During the meeting, they also explored strategic pathways to foster strong mutually beneficial partnerships with high-potential mining stakeholders based in Washington.

Also present were Geological Survey Director John Ogallo and ICCIMA Deputy President Seyed Hamed.

As part of the ongoing efforts to explore avenues for enhanced bilateral cooperation in the mining sector, Mining Principal Secretary Harry Kimtai hosted Mr. Qadir Qifayeh from the Iran Chamber Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA).

The meeting, also attended by the Iranian ambassador to Kenya H.E. Dr. Ali Gholampour and the National Mining Corporation (NAMICO) CEO Eng. Joseph Kitilit, sought to strengthen economic and commercial ties as well as enhance collaboration between the two countries.

The event brought together Principal Secretaries from line State Departments and CEOs of regulatory authorities, marking a significant step towards improving governance and service delivery.

Mining Principal Secretary Harry Kimtai attended the inaugural Regulator Forum at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre, Nairobi, presided over by the Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service, Mr. Felix Koskei.

The forum provided an important platform for regulatory authorities to discuss ways of enhancing seamless coordination, efficiency and effectiveness in public service delivery.

They agreed that strengthened collaboration between national and county governments would ensure sustainable exploitation of Turkana's mineral wealth, promoting shared prosperity and responsible mining practices.
