@MrKapitalist @Empty_America Honestly there appears to be a disconnection between what military disability is legally supposed to mean, and how it is calculated by va providers. If you can’t do your previous military job (which required relatively high physical fitness) you are considered disabled.

Hipster culture and the general complexification of American cuisine is fantastic. This country has some of the best food on the planet available almost everywhere. Cities of just 100k have every kind of cuisine imaginable, normally with very good quality.

Czechs, Italians, Spaniards, and Japanese are all outside the core of the modern west but are fairly close. That feels right. Uruguay makes it in, good for them. Poles are further away than most of East Asia, doesn’t bother me none. I am thoroughly unperturbed by this data.

@LudditeDiogenes @Chris_arnade Early in my career I had the option to take the same job in either the Boston exurbs or Tucson. We'd spent most of a year in Mass. and loved it, but we realized we could fly to Boston for a long weekend (and treat ourselves!) every single month and still come out well ahead.

The generational antipathy against “boomers” is unseemly. We are all in this together. You can’t just pick up and move and take all your relationships with you. Many people build roots in a specific place and develop a life that is not portable. We should be sensitive to that. Life is not a consumer experience of constant optimization and moving wherever you can make more money.
