The US-Israel war in Iran has sent African commodity prices soaring. Nigeria leads the pack with a 266% spike in jet fuel, followed by Ethiopia’s 90% fertiliser jump. Despite having the world’s largest refinery, Nigeria faces these hikes because state oil company debt agreements force Dangote to import most of its crude from the US and Brazil. This makes fuel prices dependent on expensive dollar-denominated imports. While Africa’s rises are extreme, they aren't alone; South East Asia has seen diesel prices nearly triple, and the Gulffaces a 120% food emergency due to the Hormuz blockade.
