Isingiro District has six Members of Parliament, one Minister of Agriculture, and another who is likely to become the Minister of Foreign Affairs. There are also other highly influential people from the district with ties to the First Family. Some hold senior positions in the military, while others occupy key roles in the finance sector. In short, the district is home to some very powerful people. Yet the poverty and poor social services in the district can make you hate being a resident. Sometimes I wonder whether these leaders see how people are living in absolute poverty while they drive G-Wagons and Mercedes-Benz vehicles, especially during the Christmas season. The roads are in a terrible state, many people still share dam water with cattle, and electricity is unreliable. In some areas, power lines exist but electricity can be off for an entire month. Even where electricity is available, many families cannot afford to connect their homes. As for the schools ,they are in a worrying state. In some constituencies, people don’t even vote for their own leaders. The irony is that many of these leaders’ sons and daughters study abroad.

UPDATE: Dr Kizza Besigye's co-accused, Hajj Obeid Lutale, has told the court that he is not afraid to stand trial but wants the proceedings to be fair. Hajj Lutale has asked the court to note that he is currently unrepresented, saying he did not consent to being represented by defence lawyers appointed by the court under the state brief scheme. Meanwhile, Justice Emmanuel Baguma says the court received a letter explaining that Dr Besigye was unable to attend the proceedings today because he is unwell. #MonitorUpdates 📸: @abubakerlubowa

Something has to happen about elections in Entebbe. From the presidential elections, the people have been rendered powerless. The gun rules. This candidate with an overwhelming majority wasn't declared. The man declared has been C/M before I started speaking. Dangerous!

A total of 246 civil society organizations from around the world, brought together by their global alliance CIVICUS, have written this letter to the international community calling for urgent action to stop the escalating human rights abuses and dictatorship in Uganda. The letter highlights arbitrary arrests, abductions, torture, attacks on journalists and Ugandan civil society organizations, electoral fraud, and the continued targeting of opposition leaders, lawyers, and human rights defenders. It especially urges bodies including the UN, African Union, and East African Community to ACT NOW and reign in dictator Museveni and his depraved son Muhoozi. We welcome this strong show of global solidarity and call on the international community to act decisively before the situation in Uganda deteriorates beyond a point of no return. civicus.org/index.php/medi…

Watch the moment Ugandan opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye collapses in court during his treason trial. The 70-year-old, who has been detained since November 2024, collapsed while objecting to state-appointed lawyers representing him.
