During the Vietnam War, the Army used listening devices in the jungle to watch for enemy troops. But, at least once, an over-sensitive radio operator who hadn’t been in the country long called an air strike on a small, bright… intheswamp.wordpress.com/2020/02/27/tha…

They rejected it out of fear of escalated violence by the people who already treated them badly. That article states that the Zionists chose "insularity," but why? Were there Arab voices friendly to the Jews at the time? No. They built a community to defend themselves because noone else did or would.

Hey @adam_louis52328, why did Herzl (the founder of Political Zionism) call the Palestinian Arabs "the indigenous population," and the Jewish settlers an "outpost of Europe"?

@realjewishlarry @History__Speaks @adam_louis52328 This is simply inaccurate. Basically every traveler to Palestine in the 1800s observed wretched conditions for the Jews and casual hostility from the Arabs towards them. Violence was a common feature. This is very well-documented.

@razibkhan Not merely ethnocentric. My Chinese students have told me they are literally taught in school that the Chinese evolved in China. No out of Africa theory. And a few couldn't hide their disgust at the suggestion they evolved the same way everyone else did: in Africa.

they're very ethnocentric, but, also bizarrely (relatively) chill about exogamy (tho african students dating chinese women was one of the major stimuluses behind tiananmen square protests)
The Faceless Rando@nonblankslate

Chinese people are the most ethnocentric people on the planet, for better and worse. Chinese guy in my old lab casually mentioned thinking Chinese genetics were better a few times sorta oblivious to how it wasn't "PC". Not trying to be a dick, just like that was a fact of nature

@MorphingReality Show me one, just one, communist country that allows independent labor unions. Working conditions in capitalist countries are, almost without exception, vastly better than in communist ones. There is no honest and informed way to dispute that.

@MorphingReality Defending communism a lot for someone who isn't a communist. But the point still applies to you: badly misinformed and seemingly uninterested in being informed.

Seriously hold the door for people when it makes sense and stop giving up your right of way at a 4-way stop.

I stopped on my completely empty, quiet as a mouse, quaint little Long Beach street to allow the only car on the road to pass before I crossed. The driver came to a complete stop 10 ft after the stoplight to let me cross. You're not being polite, you're dangerous to other drivers.

@MorphingReality Fact: unions are illegal in China, Cuba, Vietnam, North Korea, and was in the entire Warsaw Pact. Not false, not irrelevant. Prove me wrong.

Tell me you know nothing about communism, capitalism, economics, or 20th century history without telling me.
Morphing Reality@MorphingReality

@reallythistoo That’s false and irrelevant, they were illegal in capitalist countries for a long time though. Idk about 99.99%, and it’s not capitalism that gave us any of that abundance, and there’s enough surplus for everyone to work less right now, it’s just allocated inefficiently.

Jews were there too. Have been for 3000 years. They never left. Many did. Many did not. Just that many of them came back after being expelled. Jews are indigenous to Israel. You can argue that many of the zionist leaders weren't after 1000 years, but they were invited in by the ones who never left.

It meant people who were here when we arrived. Not that they had sacred rights to it or were always there. The same term would apply to Turks in Turkey, even though they colonized the region 1000 years ago. It also didn't exclude others from also being indigenous, like Druze or Jews.

Collective bargaining is illegal in every communist country. Unions are a capitalist solution to labor issues. And 99.99% of every person on the planet needed to work for at least some time. Only capitalism has enough surplus and abundance that some people don't need to work.
Morphing Reality@MorphingReality

@reallythistoo It’s not a rule of human existence at all, there are people not working and not starving even under capitalism. Capitalist firms have no problem using that labor. And that collective bargaining wasn’t a capitalist solution it was a concession people fought and died for

In Rafah, a teacher named Samira founded a school for children who had been completely cut off from education due to the destruction around them. Her belief is simple: education is what stops extremism before it takes root. Share this story. Follow @buildersmideast for more.

Work or starve is a rule of human existence. Not of capitalism. Suggesting otherwise is historically illiterate. Similarly, suggesting the slavery of Kafala was capitalism is illiterate and the coal wars ended with a perfect capitalist solution: collective bargaining.
Morphing Reality@MorphingReality

@reallythistoo Yeah you can work or starve, so you have a choice! Thoughts on the coal wars or the kafala system ?

Appropriate handle. They are morphing reality. No factually honest description of the planet, made of mostly capitalist countries, would say people are forced to work by their government. Needing money for rent and groceries is not "forcing."
Morphing Reality@MorphingReality

@SRCHicks The gigantic blinders one has to wear to imagine capitalism doesn't entail forcing anyone to participate or an authoritarian class is really something
