The three words “write every day” have penetrated the psyche of the craft so deeply that the results have been catastrophic at a species level For all the complaints writers rightly make about AI, the readers brain was primed and chipped into the perfect shape for slop digestion

@DEIAgainstMoms @ShitpostRock2 To some extent, but rule of the many vs few is fairly easy to call when you see it Ezln and Rojava are objectively democratic Most of the world is objectively oligarchic

I think there’s a strong argument to be made that dictatorships are often better at executing long-term strategic plans, since they can maintain political continuity over decades In democracies, long-term policy is harder to sustain because leadership changes frequently, priorities shift with election cycles and politicians are incentivized to focus on short-term results rather than long term prosperity

@EcoTechBro And again, even in biological research most of the genetics in this country are European by the male side, this was an entire genocidal process against indigenous and black people. Again, how am I wrong? I'm not, and you know that.

@bscholl Ah yes the least charitable and reasonable reasoning is the one you latch onto, not the fact that everyone within 5 miles gets sick

Garry has the most insightful take I’ve heard of why the hard left is so viscerally opposed to AI. Sadly it boils down to: they hate AI because AI is very very good for humans. And humans who are thriving don’t need or want socialism.
Garry Tan@garrytan

Hard leftists and DSA-types will fight AI tooth and nail because AI is the universal solvent for socialism’s three prerequisites. AI will reduce scarcity (abundance), eliminate victimhood (agency), and eliminate the need for intermediaries (disintermediation).

@dueyesterday If France built out diversionary hydro and solar and wind in the 70s and 80s we might not even have a fossil fuel issue today

@dueyesterday Nobody knows how much the Messmer plan cost cause they never released it, we do know the French utility is in super debt and they’re short like 50 billion for decommissioning old plants The pension age change that nearly caused revolution was a 12 billion shortfall

@MathewCarson11 @DCHussar Coal towns wouldn’t meet my definition of rural, and local/state authorities were often involved just on the side of the operators And all the major private security firms were based in large cities.

@MorphingReality @DCHussar Not just growing, filling empty spaces. For the first 130 or so years, vast portions of the US were essentially lawless. Federal law enforcement agencies were pretty thin until the 20th century.

@MorphingReality @DCHussar They did not intervene in economic matters, and no country had the level of economic growth we had for well over a century. Lifted millions out of poverty. Where they failed is in enforcing the rights of persons and their property against aggression from business, largely due…
