I was fairly happy with the selection, but the number of players missing through injury or left out really shows how much our player pool is improving. I’ve put together an XI of those unavailable/not picked and it’s a very good team. It also highlights how little separates a lot of these players right now. The depth is there - now it’s about who can push on and establish themselves at the very top. And this team doesn’t include the likes of Anselmo Garcia MacNulty, Conor Coventry, Andrew Moran, Sinclair Armstrong, Millenic Alli and Jack Moylan.

Bosun Lawal has been included in the Ireland squad while Conor Coventry has been left out, with his physicality seen as a strong fit for what Ireland need against Czechia 🇮🇪 With Cullen unavailable, it looks like Lawal could come straight into the midfield alongside Molumby and he may play a key role in the future of Ireland's midfield. He’s long been seen as a future midfield option but he could now be thrown into making his debut in a huge game for Ireland. Will he be in the starting lineup next Thursday? 🤔

Umeh has been highly rated for a long time, involved at underage level and now getting his chance to step up and show what he can do at U21 level 👏

Bosun Lawal is back in the international fold!🇮🇪 Lawal has been named in the squad for the upcoming March internationals and could be on a collision course to start in midfield against Czechia next Thursday. When I asked Hallgrimsson about picking him over someone like Conor Coventry, who’s been playing more regularly - the reasoning was clear. Lawal’s size, physicality and overall profile are seen as a perfect fit for this specific game. Even coming off an injury, there’s a real trust in what he brings. He’s been in the setup before, even if still uncapped, and from the sounds of it, the manager is a big admirer. And it’s no surprise. Anyone who’s watched Lawal knows the level he has. Now it’s about delivering on the big stage.
