viktor orbán has been decisively voted out of power, losing to péter maygar. this wasn’t a shift to the left, it was a rejection of kleptocracy. linkedin.com/posts/ianbremm…

@archeohistories More concerned about getting to Suez quickly than fighting real ships mano a manor in real time. They held the Renown back against Bismarck after this. Garbage British engineering always looking to save money.

A group photograph of the crew of the British battlecruiser Hood. Of the 1,415 men, only 3 survived after the battle with Bismarck. ... HMS Hood, commissioned in 1920, was the largest warship in the world for over two decades and a symbol of British naval power. On May 24, 1941, during the Battle of the Denmark Strait, Hood engaged the German battleship Bismarck and heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen. Within minutes of opening fire, a shell, likely from Bismarck, penetrated Hood’s deck armor and detonated a magazine. The resulting explosion broke the ship apart. She sank in approximately three minutes. Out of a crew of 1,418, only three sailors survived. The loss accounted for nearly all hands aboard and remains one of the most devastating single-ship losses in Royal Navy history. The sinking prompted an immediate and massive British naval response, culminating in the destruction of Bismarck three days later. Investigations later concluded that Hood’s deck armor was insufficient against long-range plunging fire, a vulnerability that proved fatal under the engagement conditions. © Historical Photos #archaeohistories

@steve_hanke Sure if we only did things the way we have the last 40 yrs we would have $5 trillion trade deficits with China, Iran would have nuclear weapons and we would be all overrun by DEI and illegals~ But go on clown!

A record 54% of Americans say their financial situation is worse than a year ago. Today’s dissatisfaction reading is 18x higher than it was in 2021. AFFORDABILITY = TRUMP’S ACHILLES HEEL.

BREAKING: Israel and Lebanon agree to a 10-day ceasefire starting tonight at 5pm EST. If history is a guide, the ceasefire is probably not worth the paper it’s written on. ISRAEL IS NOTORIOUS FOR BREAKING CEASEFIRES.

@ianbremmer Wasnt this what gold was presaging from Oct 7, 2023 on? Of course gold is now in its 2021-2023 stage! Flat even though real time fundamentals scream bullish.

$2t → $2.7t in 6 years. and that's before the iran war, before europe's (and asia's) defense spending push, before the $90b ukraine loan. the chart from 2026 is going to look even steeper.

@adamtaggart @RealRickRule While tax rates are indeed low I am noticing all the additional taxes now disguised as "fees" that used to not exist 20-30 yrs ago: congestion pricing, TSA IDs to travel, composting expenses etc. With price level up 30% since Dec 2019 more insult to injury.

@DannyDayan5 There is a path timing wise, which if the Iran situation gets shelved soon, that the admin can blame the heightened inflation on a situation that they had to deal with and which was existential. All in lieu of Trump demands for lower rates for last mos. and which continue today.

@robert41405 Doesn't really matter what you or I think. It's what consumers think and they are clear - deal with inflation.

Why is the U.S. Treasury buying back debt at a record pace? In short, it's a backdoor way to absorb supply and suppress yields without the Fed formally doing QE. Treasury issues new short-duration debt, uses proceeds to buy back longer-duration debt — effectively shortening the average maturity of outstanding debt & putting downward pressure on long rates. It's almost like Bessent is helping run monetary policy.
Ash Crypto@AshCrypto

BREAKING: 🇺🇸 The US Treasury has bought back a record $75.6 BILLION in debt so far in 2026. This is the largest buyback in any 3–4 month window in the modern history.

Russia has put a fresh offer on the table for New Delhi - 2 full squadrons of Su-57 stealth fighters for the IAF. If the deal gets locked in by 2026, we could be looking at 36–40 fifth-gen beasts entering India’s arsenal by 2030. Timeline? Even more interesting.. First jets could touch Indian soil by 2027–28, with the entire fleet delivered before the decade ends.

Gold is recovering but that's cold comfort for anyone who thinks of it as a safe haven. Gold is rising because the US and Iran are negotiating, which means it's trading like a high-beta asset, not a safe haven. All the retail money into gold has broken it. robinjbrooks.substack.com/p/did-the-deba…

According to the IMF’s research of 164 countries, higher defense spending worsened gov’t deficits by ~2.6% of GDP and raised public debt by 7 percentage points within 3 years. DEFENSE SPENDING = BAD ECONOMIC NEWS.
