#NowSpinning Shostakovich Symphony 15 with Järvi in Gothenburg. This has been a thrilling cycle and this one has started extremely well. Järvi has a real knack for letting it all hang out.

The @nyphil wonderfully played Shostakovich’s massive, sprawling 4th Symphony last night under the superb direction of @NosedaG , who kissed his miniature conducting score at the fading end of the work. I was lucky to hear him in the same symphony at the @NatSymphonyDC last May.

The @nyphil for its season opener today made in usual choice: the world premiere of of light and stone by @annezilotti . This piece was perfect for the occasion on 9/11 - beautiful, w/ anguish & memories from generations in Hawaii, strong emotionality, and unusual instrumentation
