By my count, @MPMichaelMa attended 8 events in the last 8 months with the Chinese Communist Party’s United Front-linked entities. Wow, what are the odds?

🧵Brief thread on Canadian MP Michael Ma’s connection with 🇨🇳 United Front Work (He’s the MP who recently questioned the veracity of the Uyghur persecutions) ‼️October 19, 2025: Ma attended the 15th-anniversary gala of the Canada Fujian Friendship Association. 🚩This gathering featured the Fujian/Fuzhou regional network, including leadership from the Toronto Fuqing Business Association—a group whose Markham commercial property was investigated by the RCMP and identified by Safeguard Defenders as an undeclared Chinese "police service station." The UFW frequently relies on these regional proxy networks to monitor the diaspora. [1] ❗️March 14, 2026: Ma and his wife, Anna Ma, personally visited the new headquarters of the Canada Shenzhen Associations Federation (CCSA) in Markham. 🚩Intelligence experts identify such "hometown" and regional business associations as key nodes in the United Front network, frequently used to co-opt diaspora leaders, promote Beijing’s political narratives, and facilitate state-backed economic and technological transfers. [2] ❗️March 4, 2026: Ma formally received a delegation from the CCSA, led by Chair Qi Jia, in his Parliament Hill office to discuss "systematically promoting China's image." 🚩This type of direct parliamentary access aligns with United Front "people-to-people" diplomacy, utilising diaspora trade groups to lobby host-country officials, build political capital, and influence mainstream narratives on behalf of Beijing. [3] ❗️September 19, 2025: Ma attended the 9th-anniversary charity gala of the CCSA alongside PRC Consul General Luo Weidong and CCSA Chair Qi Jia. 🚩The United Front frequently utilizes high-profile charity and community galas hosted by diaspora associations to build political capital with local officials, project mainstream legitimacy, and align overseas elites with Beijing's strategic objectives under the guise of philanthropy. [4] ❗️September 6, 2025: Ma’s office sent a representative to the Mid-Autumn Festival hosted by the Confederation of Chinese Alumni Associations (CCAA) in Markham. 🚩The CCAA is a massive umbrella organization. Security experts note that such "alumni" federations are frequently used as proxy groups by United Front networks to mobilize diaspora populations, build social capital with Canadian officials, and marginalize dissenting voices. [5] ❗️June 20, 2025: Ma attended the grand opening gala of the Canadian Entrepreneurs Alliance (LEAC) in Markham, alongside various business elites and local politicians. 🚩High-profile diaspora commercial networks and business galas are frequently targeted by the United Front to cultivate "elite capture," build political capital with Canadian officials, and project mainstream legitimacy under the guise of commercial networking. [6] ❗️June 7, 2025: Ma attended the 42nd-anniversary gala of the Scarborough York Region Chinese Business Association (SYRCBA), an event where Chinese Consulate official Liu Linlin delivered a speech directing the group to promote Beijing's bilateral trade goals. 🚩Diaspora chambers of commerce are frequently utilized by the United Front and PRC consulates to align overseas business elites with Beijing's economic objectives and mobilize political support. [7] ❗️May 3, 2025: Ma attended the grand opening of the Canada Network & Resource Centre (CNRC) and its private networking clubhouse. 🚩The United Front frequently leverages high-end diaspora "networking centers" and private business clubs to facilitate "elite capture," seamlessly blending commercial interests with political influence-building in host countries. Floor-crossing Liberal MP Michael Ma just dismissed Uyghur forced labour testimony as “hearsay” in committee. He asked the expert if she PERSONALLY witnessed slave labour in Xinjiang. 😖 She said no Westerner can get into Xinjiang because China would never allow it. When CBC asked him afterward if he believes there is forced labour in China, he said “I believe there is forced labour around the world.” Refused to say China. Not once, BUT THREE TIMES. Canada’s own Parliament voted to call this a GENOCIDE. This is the MP who crossed the floor to the Liberals, was immediately flown to Beijing with Carney, and is a former director of an organization named as a CCP United Front group. Carney’s office admitted this week that human rights were NOT raised with Xi during that trip. Now one of his MPs is running defence for Beijing on slave labour in a Canadian committee room. Who does Michael Ma work for?!

Why is a member of the Canadian Liberal Party Defending Human Rights violations in China. And with the mannerism of a 12 year old school argument? Here are a few facts: There is substantial and credible evidence of state-imposed forced labor in China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR), based on converging findings from the United Nations, multiple governments, independent researchers, supply-chain investigations, and leaked official Chinese documents. ohchr.org This evidence spans eyewitness testimonies, satellite imagery, government procurement records, corporate supply-chain audits, and internal policy documents. It is not limited to the large-scale internment camps that drew global attention in 2017–2020 (many of which were later scaled back or repurposed). Instead, it points to an ongoing system of "poverty alleviation through labor transfer" programs that coerce Uyghurs, Kazakhs, Kyrgyz, and other minorities into factory, agricultural, and industrial work—often under surveillance, with quotas, restricted movement, and penalties (including re-detention) for refusal. ohchr.org Key Evidence from Authoritative Sources United Nations (2022 OHCHR Assessment and 2026 expert statement): The UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) found credible indications that labor schemes linked to "vocational education and training centers" (VETCs) and post-release placements involve coercion under the "menace of penalty." A January 2026 statement by multiple UN special rapporteurs and working groups described a "persistent pattern of alleged State-imposed forced labour" across provinces, tied to the labor-transfer program. Xinjiang's 2021–2025 five-year plan projected 13.75 million labor transfers, with actual numbers reportedly reaching new highs. In some cases, these may amount to "forcible transfer and/or enslavement as a crime against humanity."ohchr.org U.S. Government and Department of Labor: The Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (2021) was passed on the basis of credible evidence of systematic forced labor. As of 2025, U.S. Customs and Border Protection has detained thousands of shipments worth billions of dollars suspected of using forced labor (textiles, auto parts, solar, etc.). The Department of Labor's List of Goods Produced by Forced Labor explicitly includes Xinjiang-sourced cotton, aluminum, and other products from Muslim minorities.dol.gov Independent research (e.g., ASPI, Adrian Zenz, others): Reports document coercive transfers of tens to hundreds of thousands of Uyghurs since 2017, often from rural areas or former camps to factories in Xinjiang and other provinces. Factories supply global brands in apparel, electronics, autos, and critical minerals. Government documents show quotas, "pairing assistance" programs, and monitoring that eliminate genuine voluntariness. These practices continued and intensified through 2023–2025.aspistrategist.org.au Journalistic and NGO investigations (2024–2025): Investigations by The Bureau of Investigative Journalism, The New York Times, and others geolocated Uyghur and other minority workers in dozens of factories across China, linked to over 100 global brands via state recruitment. Supply chains for cotton (20% of global production from Xinjiang), solar polysilicon, aluminum, and minerals show clear links.thebureauinvestigates.com

Why is Ma's line of questioning logically untenable? 1)In international human rights and criminal investigations, no one has ever required that people must “see it with their own eyes” before believing in large-scale atrocities. e.g. - Nazi concentration camps in WWII:there were mountains of evidence but nobody required “seen it with their own eyes”. 2) Forced labor or ethnic persecution in other authoritarian regimes has also been established through a combination of evidence (eyewitness accounts, documents, and imagery). 3) If we strictly apply Ma’s standard, then almost all criticism of authoritarian countries (including China’s own accusations against other nations) would have to be dismissed as “hearsay.” This is clearly unreasonable. 4) Ma himself said, “I believe there is forced labor everywhere in the world,” yet he deliberately avoided directly answering whether there is forced labor in Xinjiang. This has been widely interpreted as downplaying the specific issue rather than neutrally seeking the truth. In short: he applies a strict standard to others, but does not apply the same standard to himself or to the CCP. This is not a pursuit of truth, but rather an attempt to create a plausible excuse for an environment where “it cannot be personally verified.”

I recognize this style, Sam @scoopercooper; it mirrors Chinese officials whitewashing the Uyghur genocide, specifically the tactics used by Victor Gao. When a Canadian MP uses his platform and Canadian parliament committee hearing to amplify Beijing’s propaganda, it is an offense to our democracy and a betrayal of global human rights. MP Ma’s aggressive comments are not just "questions", but they are a mirror of the CCP’s own denials and talking points in regards to the Uyghur atrocity and forced labor. He owes the Uyghur community a formal apology, starting with victims like my sister, Dr. Gulshan Abbas, whose lives are being traded for political talking points and the self-serving interests of people like Mr. Ma.

This isn’t just an attack on a witness; it’s an attack on the truth. The Uyghur genocide is a fact recognized by Canada’s own Parliament. When a Canadian MP dismisses survivor testimony as "hearsay," @MPMichaelMa betrays the Uyghur people and surrenders Canadian sovereignty to foreign influence. We demand you, MP Ma apologize to the Uyghur diaspora and to my sister, #DrGulshanAbbas, who is being held hostage as a victim of transnational repression for my advocacy as an Uyghur American. Human lives are not disposable, and referencing people in Shenzhen to deflect from your behavior yesterday is unacceptable. We demand accountability, not propaganda.
MPMichaelMa@MPMichaelMa

Today, during an exchange with a witness at the Standing Committee on Industry and Technology, I asked questions that inadvertently came across as dismissive of the serious issue of forced labour. To be clear, my line of questioning referred to auto manufacturing in Shenzhen, China, and not in Xinjiang. I regret this mistake and apologise to Ms. McCuaig-Johnston and my fellow committee members. I condemn forced labour, in all its forms. Canada has amongst the most rigorous forced-labour import laws in the world, and I am proud to support the government’s work to eradicate forced labour from supply chains and enforce Canada’s import prohibition.

He also ignored a formal request for comment from my publisher, @opibooks, further underscoring a troubling willingness to use his platform, and the Canadian Parliament, to echo CCP’s talking points and narratives. MP Ma crossed the floor from the Conservative Party to the Liberals in December 2025 and accompanied Prime Minister Mark Carney on his first official visit to China in January 2026. His dismissal of well-documented evidence of Uyghur forced labor during the committee hearing raises serious concerns about whether elements within the current Canadian government are aligned with efforts to downplay the Uyghur genocide and the realities of state-sponsored forced labor. Canadian government needs to address this.

CFU is alarmed by Canadian @MPMichaelMa's dismissal of Uyghur forced labor evidence as "hearsay" during a parliamentary committee hearing. When Margaret McCuaig-Johnston (@M_Johnston1), a China expert, testified that Canada has blocked only two forced-labor shipments, compared to thousands under the U.S. UFLPA, Ma responded that he only believes what he can see with his own eyes. By that logic, every dictatorship could erase its crimes simply by hiding them well enough. Canada has recognized the Uyghur genocide. Its parliament must not retreat from that recognition now.

I am deeply alarmed by Liberal MP Michael Ma’s suggestion that crimes are only real if personally witnessed; such logic allows any dictatorship to erase its atrocities through secrecy. The Uyghur genocide is documented by survivors, supply chain investigations, and UN experts, who recently warned that these conditions may amount to enslavement. My own sister, Dr. Gulshan Abbas, has been imprisoned for nearly eight years in retaliation for my advocacy, a clear act of transnational repression. This is a global moral and security threat, not a partisan issue, affecting Uyghurs, Tibetans, and Hong Kongers alike. I will be in Ottawa on April 22–23 and welcome a direct briefing with MP Ma to present the irrefutable evidence of these state-sanctioned crimes.

Wow! This is a must watch. Ottawa Senior Fellow Margaret McCuaig-Johnston the one that Michael Ma was asking if she had seen forced labor in China gives us more information than we’ve ever heard on trade with China & global affairs Canada. The US has opened a section 301 investigation of Canada because they don’t believe we’re sufficiently rigorous on our forced labor implementation. Meaning we do trade with China even though they know forced labor may have been used on incoming shipments. This is an epic scandal.

Some members of the Senate and the House of Commons are engaging in a dangerous form of narrow ethno-nationalism—one that is increasingly reflected in their parliamentary conduct. They conflate personal or cultural affinity with uncritical alignment to the political ideology of their countries of origin, even when those ideologies stand in direct contradiction to Canada’s democratic values. This blindfolded loyalty is often expressed through blanket denial of the ongoing Uyghur genocide, crimes against humanity, Uyghur forced labour, and transnational repression still being committed by the government of the People’s Republic of China These are not casual or disputed claims. They are serious legal determinations, grounded in evidence and recognized in official reports by the United Nations, national governments, parliamentary bodies, and credible research institutions as well as china’s internal documents and china’s own Nankai report Such denialism is dangerous. It undermines the integrity of our democratic institutions, weakens our commitment to human rights, and distorts public discourse. This form of ethno-nationalism has no place in our society. If left unchallenged, it risks opening the door to deeper divisions and future chaos. Canada must remain anchored in truth, accountability, and the universal values that define a just and democratic society. I strongly condemn those irresponsible conduct and act of denialism expressed by members of our legislative branches @liberal_party @MarkJCarney @PierrePoilievre @yfblanchet @SenateCA @HoCSpeaker

Our U.S. universities are under siege from foreign espionage and national security threats that faculty and staff are turning a blind eye to. Look no further than the University of Michigan where Chinese nationals connected to the school attempted to smuggle biological materials into the U.S.—or Stanford where a student just told me her university ignored Chinese espionage targeting her directly. This should NEVER be happening on our kids’ college campuses. These are national security threats that demand accountability.
