@woods_jus @dieworkwear I'm in Central Texas and will be facing a walk from the parking garage to the office. I think I'll actually need one for maybe February.

@dieworkwear I always see these cool overcoats and think I want one…and then realize I live in south Texas and would get to wear it for like 2 weeks.

@AngieBuckland @jayrjordan Roaches in Congress...
Oh, Marvin. What a character!
English

@jayrjordan This makes me so damn happy. Thanks for that flashback! I heard it in Marvin's voice.

@TravisLaPew @metroadlib That's for the RV and portojohns only. Emergency or camping. Disgraceful!
English

@metroadlib GHAT-DAYUMN! That’s what we Louisiana people call “John Wayne hurricane toilet paper”.
Rough, tough & don’t take shit off of nobody.
Only good for hurricanes when supplies run out.

@cspan @SpeakerJohnson Or zero.
Not even trying to appease anymore, I see.
English

@cspan @SpeakerJohnson Betting there will be exactly one, and it'll be a committee about children/motherhood.
English

.@SpeakerJohnson on lack of women as committee chairs: "Chairman of committees are very important positions, but we really do engage all the membership. We have extraordinary women serving in Congress...we value those voices...We haven't decided all the committee chairs yet."

@joncoopertweets That moment between when you turn on the light and the roaches scatter.

@TracesofTexas @johnoeffinger75 Oh, that's so sad. I loved her voice. What a loss.

Some sad news tonight. The great Toni Price has passed away, reportedly from a brain aneurysm, at the age of 63. I realize that many of y'all don't know who Toni was, especially if you live outside of Austin or Texas or are unacquainted with Texas music, but Toni was a country-blues singer who released some of Austin’s best-selling albums and hosted one of its most revered live residencies, a 22-year Tuesday night "hippie hour" at the Continental Club. She sang with an impassioned alto voice and in one song she'd convince you that her heart was literally breaking right in front of you and how would she ever recover and in the next she'd break out with the rambunctiousness of a frisky young filly and make you glad to be alive.
For a while in the 90s it looked like Toni would be Austin's next big star. I think it was the late Michael Corcoran (who also died this year) who called her a "juke joint Madonna." The first time I saw her was at Antone's, where she joined the ranks of Marcia Ball, Lou Ann Barton, and Angela Strehli as Austin blues boogie queens. She had been in Nashville before she moved to Texas and found the music scene in Austin much friendlier and more supportive. " In Nashville, everybody hates everybody; it's not loving like it is here. Clifford Antone was like, 'Come in to the Home of the Blues.' Just welcomed me,” Toni said. She could take anybody's song and make it her own. She had the power to reduce a song to its essential elements and unpack them in such a way that you felt it was just you and her in the room. Go to your favorite music purveyor and listen to her gorgeous rendition of Monty Warden's "Just to Hear Your Voice," or the jazz standard "Comes Love" or "Rusty Old Red River," for just a small taste of what she could do. She was something special and will be greatly missed.
This photo of Toni was taken in 2006 by Steven Hopson.

In Texas, new course materials called “Bluebonnet Learning” include religious lessons that critics say undermine religious freedom, and could isolate non-Christian students. @WmBrangham breaks down how the Bible made its way into the classroom. to.pbs.org/4fEBwqN

@TerryWatkinsJr1 I need to look up what is "permissable" when in a national emergency. This is gonna go sideways, fast.

This is going to be a very ugly session. Filing a bill in the #txlege is no guarantee that it will pass, but there's a clear tilt to the type of legislation being filed. There will be more harm than help, here.

Drag performers could be sued by children they perform in front of under a new bill filed in Texas. The bill would allow lawsuits to be filed up to 10 years after the performance - even if the child was brought there by their parents. #txlege
